It's all about voting, folks. This is an example of what RepubliCONS will do to limit our access to the ballot. They know (even if some progressives among us don't seem to) that black women are democrats' not so secret weapon. Watch the clip below to see how a Tarrant County Texas DA is trying to make an example of Crystal Mason.
For more context, here're a few other articles about Ms. Mason.

(8,709 posts)and the DA gets away with her so-called ignorance of violating election laws. And she gave a Justice of the Peace, Russ Casey, 5 years probation and no prison time after he pleaded guilty to forging signatures to get on a March 6 Republican primary ballot. I can't even...

(1,730 posts)What really upsets me is that we don't know how many county DAs are pulling this same type of crap! How many more, especially in the south, are targeting the Crystal Masons of the world? Since most do not have the resources to hire PR firms and get top quality representation, it would seem that we'll never know.

(8,709 posts)strike my heart more than I can say. My family had to to deal with a prosecutor who was relentless in our police brutality case. I guess my point is no matter how much support Ms. Mason gets, Wilson will not stop until the U.S. District Court and/or U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals stop her. And Wilson knows that she will be stopped but that's not the point as we know, but to cause as much unbearable suffering and example-making as possible.
But I do understand that we grieve for those without the means, education and/or wherewithal to withstand and fight this level of injustice. After reading her statement that she will never vote again, I know republicons won. And still, she will have to deal with the trauma that is real PTSD as well as for her loved ones.
I just hope that people who hear of her will donate to her defense and will keep alert of the many others who need our help to donate. The only good thing so far is that more and more focus is on this county and hopefully many others will have the spotlight beaming on them.
Thank you for the links, spicysista.
On Edit: I have to include that in our case, The DA, after the prosecutor was struck down over and over again, eventually became our defense attorney only in hopes that my family member would not sue the state. But a few years later, dealing with this trauma, we still don't know what to do - heal or fight. We have to let our family member reach his own decision. It's not a just a travesty but just fucking tragic for people across the country.

(1,730 posts)My Lord. My heart is troubled for the pain you and your family have endured. I am heartened and hopeful that all of this will be rectified in some way. It must be! This is simply too much.
Heal or fight, indeed. It's all too much for one person to carry. Your family member is in an unjust position. This makes such a burden all the more overwhelming.
It's good that you guys have each other. A strong family is an everlasting treasure. Thank you for sharing a part of your story with me, Kind of Blue.
Whomever becomes our candidate must make criminal justice reform a key part of their platform. There needs to be accountability for all these 'top cops". Period.
