I used to have a really good sense of humor, although it did lean toward the sarcastic side. I've been told how clever and quick on my feet I am - or WAS.
Seems like I am having trouble "getting it." "It" being jokes or retorts. I honestly have no clue. It gets a little embarrassing sometimes. Even with Sunday's LOL Cats post by SalmonChantedEvening.
I turn 72 this month. Has anyone else noticed this happening to them? I want my funny bone back, dammit!

(47,333 posts)No problem so far. However, I'm generally out of touch with most pop culture, so those jokes go right over my head. Anything involving Seinfeld or Friends, for example, makes no sense to me. Could that be happening to you?

My Dad's Christmas joke [View all]
A long time ago, before people had indoor bathrooms, a man was awakened to a tremendous crash. He looked out the window and to his amazement, saw Santa Claus, the reindeer, the sled, and his outhouse in shambles. Santa was yelling something, so the man opened his window in time to hear Santa scream, "I said Schmitt house!"
After posting this, I finally got it. Duh!

(42,649 posts)The house had a hand pump in the kitchen, but there was still an outhouse.
Growing up in the 1950's, that same house, my grandfather's house, did have an in door washroom but the outhouse was still functional.
And it was still heated by two stoves. One in the kitchen and one in the living room, with open grates providing heat for the upstairs.

(25,889 posts)I don't know if it is just a different type of humor that they are working with now - or if I have lost my sense of humor. I just don't find their skits funny. Most are just kind of stupid.
I like to watch sitcoms. Now I notice that a lot of the so-called humor in sitcoms seems stupid as well. It's like they are trying to appeal to a very low IQ audience

(60,593 posts)I'm 67 now, and I can't watch a typical sitcom any more. Just leave me flat.
Most of the "comic stars" these days don't even interest me. LOL cats is a bit repetitive for me, so I seldom click on it. Well, that and I don't like cats, either.
Too bad. Maybe when Trump leaves the sun will shine again.
