Driveways

The tall grass drops its seed along the driveway where they will drift away in their own time. Old people see driveways like that, allowing things and people to float away. They see the backside of everyone who leaves, hoping with shaky hands and hearts that a return will be possible in the time remaining. There are no tears, they stopped forming many years ago when life's pains were finally accepted. The old lady thinks back to the times her seeds were blown away and grabs an arm for support. They walk back up the driveway to the house brushing against the grass, silent. Neither wants to think about the loved ones that left on that driveway. But they do.
