Democrats have launched a full-throated attack on Republican Marco Rubio’s suggestion to privatize the Department of Veterans Affairs, saying it is “backwards and out of touch.”

“Our veterans in Iowa and across the nation have sacrificed tremendous amounts to help keep our country safe,” said Danny Homan, Vice Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party. “And unlike Marco Rubio, we showed up every day to do our jobs and protect this country.”

Homan was joined by Arizona U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego in a conference call aimed at countering Rubio’s suggestion.

“Republicans have killed other legislation that would benefit veterans by tacking on controversial and unrelated provisions,” said Gallego. “They sadly prioritize politics over taking care of our nation’s heroes every single day. And that is exactly what Marco Rubio has been doing on foreign policy and what he hopes to do with the Veterans Administration.”

They have tons experience dealing with vets and vet related issues that you just can't find in the civilian sector. The couple of times I sought treatment from a civilian psychiatrist for my PTSD, they flat out told me that I was too much for them to deal with. That being said where am I going to find 6 week long inpatient psychiatric programs for PTSD that focuses on combat vets outside of the VA?

Not to downplay anyone's trauma, but there is a difference in the PTSD a guy has after a year in Iraq and being in multiple firefights and dealing with death and carnage on a daily basis and the PTSD someone gets from being in a single automotive accident.
