Homeland Security Admits It Tried to Manufacture Fake Terrorists for Trump
The Department of Homeland Security launched a failed operation that ensnared hundreds, if not thousands, of U.S. protesters in what new documents show was as a sweeping, power-hungry effort before the 2020 election to bolster President Donald Trumps spurious claims about a terrorist organization he accused his Democratic rivals of supporting.
An internal investigative report, made public this month by Sen. Ron Wyden, a Democrat of Oregon, details the findings of DHS lawyers concerning a previously undisclosed effort by Trumps acting secretary of homeland security, Chad Wolf, to amass secret dossiers on Americans in Portland attending anti-racism protests in summer 2020 sparked by the police murder of Minneapolis father George Floyd.
The report describes the attempts of top intelligence officials to connect protesters to a fabricated anti-fascist terrorist plot in hopes of boosting Trumps reelection odds, raising concerns about the ability of a sitting president to co-opt billions of dollars worth of domestic intelligence assets for their own political gain. DHS analysts recounted orders to create organizational charts that could be used to establish links between the arrested protesters; an effort that would seemingly legitimize President Trumps erroneous tweets about Antifa, an organization DHS tried but failed to prove shared a central source of funding.
The DHS report offers a full accounting of the intelligence activities happening behind the scenes of officers protest containment; twisted efforts, Wyden said, of Trump administration officials promoting baseless conspiracy theories to manufacture of a domestic terrorist threat for the presidents political gain. The report describes the dossiers generated by DHS as having detailed the past whereabouts and the friends and followers of the subjects, as well as their interests up to and including First Amendment speech activity. Intelligence analysts had internally raised concerns about the decision to accuse anyone caught in the streets by default of being an anarchist extremist specifically because sufficient facts were never found to support such a characterization.

(18,745 posts)Reports are, right after this election he will announce.
And so the time to indict him may have passed.

(11,706 posts)Maybe Garland needs to announce indictments on November 9! Not that indictments would stop Trump, but it might make Republican leaders back off their support a bit.

Anything less is a crime.
Root out all these enabling bastards who committed crimes or make them testify in open court all the way up the food chain to get Barr, Pompeo, Nazi Miller, and eventually TFG.
The pernicious nature of so many federalist society types all throughout DOJ, DHS, and other alphabet agencies that put rethug party over country makes me want to vomit.

(7,839 posts)Have the voters forgotten who the coup plotters were, or has the mass media and mass media mass advertising money, thank you very much say the media, forced them to forget?
Or worse, have voters given up on democracy, or see no threat even as the threat looms over everything?
I dont get it, fully. It bothers me.

But getting the evidence on tRump and putting him away based on testimony is what we need to get America back.
Cooperation should at least limit some of the damage.
Lack of cooperation from those who enjoyed the pillage and rape of America --- toss the book and the book shelf at them.

We've come to the point that, with so many higher-ups having been bought off and corrupted, we cannot truly trust anyone.

I believe the story presented here based on the reporting the OP references. Brought to us by 'the media' and government investigators.

(1,690 posts)The Trump administration and the GOP in general want to destroy faith in government. That has been their objective for years. In many respects they are more effective promotors of anarchy than any of the so called anarchists. Has the GOP been successful in doing this, yes. One of the reasons we want bureaucracy is that it can force consistent behavior, what we don't want is bigots creating that bureaucracy. Where the bigots are in charge the bureaucracy is used to reinforce their bigotry. That's what we're seeing, a systemic use of the administrative state to suppress those who object. The problem isn't "government," it the coopting of government to a partisan purpose.

(12,051 posts)the gate? And Pence (and Biden) being wary about which Secret Service agents they can go with? All of this is so way, way, way over the line that I just can't deal with it, frankly.
And yes, I DO agree it's the bigots and nuts who have ruined government for the general public, but our general situation is still bad whether we 'trust' government or not.

(481 posts)If I'm not conflating events (there have been so many) some uniformed arm of the Fed was abducing people off the streets in the northwest at that time, loading them into vans, and hauling them off to god knows where. The abductors were arm military or police but had no markings on their uniforms.
Did some people go missing all together? Wasn't there an Antifa 'leader' who died in custody? Could this thread lead to kidnapping or murder?
Help me out on the details please.
