(8,244 posts)1. awesome - here's another great quote I like
"we are not supposed to be simply stenographers to power"
(Reporting from the Republican Nat. Convention)
AMY GOODMAN: Basically, this happens all the time at this convention around Mr. Koch, one of the most powerful forces at this convention. When you go up to ask him a question, a group of men stand up all around him and make it impossibleor protect him from the press. These are supposed to be celebrations of democracy, these conventions. Theres a reason why both conventions welcome 15,000 journalists. They want to get their message out. But we are not supposed to be simply stenographers to power. We are there to ask serious questions and to follow the money. This is Democracy Now!, and were on the floor of the Republican National Convention

The First Amendment protects the right of the powerful to tell lies or to not talk at all. Pretty disappointing how that experiment in democracy is turning out.
Jefferson would be watering trees, but we are lesser men in lesser times.

Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting (fair.org) is a breath of fresh air in a world dominated by corporate brainwash propaganda media. It always manages to put a smile on my face even in the unbelievable times we've been placed.
