Supreme Court to hear challenge to bump stock ban in high courts latest gun case

WASHINGTON (AP) The Supreme Court on Wednesday will hear a challenge to a Trump-era ban on bump stocks, a gun accessory used in a Las Vegas massacre that was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
A Texas gun shop owner argues the Trump administration didnt follow federal law when it reversed course and banned bump stocks, which allow semi-automatic weapons to fire rapidly like machine guns.
The Biden administration is defending the ban, saying regulators were right to revise previous findings and ban bump stocks under laws against machine guns dating back decades.
Federal appeals courts have been divided over the bump stock rule, which marks the latest gun case to come before the Supreme Court. The case offers a fresh test for a court with a conservative supermajority to define the limits of gun restrictions in an era plagued by mass shootings.

The Mouth
(3,274 posts)Because no one who actually knows about firearms or intends to use them at anything other than a private range gives a damn about them (oh, and mass shooters). They affect pretty much no one and this will give the court cover for more important and effective decisions (such as Constitutional Carry, and overturning the 1934 and 1968 acts).
The only use for them is emptying a magazine as quickly as possible when you don't give a fuck about where the bullets go, and pretty much no firearms enthusiast (or 'Gun Humper', fetishist, or person trying to compensate for a small penis or lack of one entirely, as the gun-haters call us) gives the slightest damn.

The legislative branch clearly defines what constitutes a "machine gun". The executive branch looks at that, says screw that, we know what it really is. The judicial branch now is looking to see if they overstepped their authority.
If they rule on the facts, it's a slam dunk. If they rule on feelings, it's a crap shoot. Either way, 3D printer goes Brrrrrrrrr.
