Father of transgender teen attacked in school says attackers should face criminal charges
This took place not far from where I currently live. Shame on the High School where this happened. Shame on the parents of the students who did this. SHAME on the students who did this. SHAME by the Hopkins Police if NOTHING is done about this.Article at...https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/07/us/cobalt-sovereign-minnesota-transgender-student-reaj/index.html
I thought Minnesota was better than this.

(120,432 posts)1. And, maybe, shame on the parents of the students who did it.
Where did those boys get the attitude that led to the attack on this poor kid? Maybe from social media influences, but maybe at home. I didn't think Hopkins was a part of the Minnesota that's basically a cold Alabama, but there are shitty people everywhere.

Minnetonka Police Chief Scott Boerboom tells CNN Sovereigns mother reported the incident to the police department the day it happened and he was not made aware of it until the following Monday.
Boerboom says he would have preferred the school notify the police as soon as the incident occurred.
We would arrive at the school, we would meet with the victim, Cobalt, we would talk to the suspects, identify the suspects, get their side of the story, talk to the victim. And then we are required to notify parents at that time, he said. By having us contacted at the onset, we can assess it as first responders and we have access to EMS or medical services.

The school didn't call the cops as soon as this occurred....or even AT ALL? What the actual fuck. I hope those in charge pay dearly for this and that the parents have already engaged the services of a very skilled lawyer who is getting ready to sue the pants off everyone involved.
That is OF COURSE in addition to multiple criminal (including HATE CRIME) charges for the attackers.
We will address any issues that compromise the safety and inclusivity of our school environment, the school told CNN in a statement. We support and stand by any group that is marginalized, including our LGBTQ+ scholars and staff.
Oh, yeah? Well, you sure have a weird way of showing your concern for safety and inclusiveness and your so-called "support" for LGBTQ+ students, you lily-livered liars! You're going to have to do a whole hell of a lot more than issue mealy mouthed statements like this.
I can't wait to hear the story behind this, about why the decision was made not to call the police, among other things. I damned well believe there was a story behind it, a reason or reasons why the school didn't take the obvious appropriate step of calling 911.
There's a story, all right, and the sooner it all comes out, the better. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they were trying to avoid bad press, among other things. How ironic would that be?
