If you are a massive WW2 history buff, consider this series: Second War Diary - The War Day by Day

I don't know if it's available online elsewhere, but you can get it on Amazon Prime. It is kinda boring because 1) the narrator reads the information like he's being forced to (one commenter said as if he was a POW being forced to read propaganda) and 2) it is literally a day by day recounting of WW2 events. If you can deal with the semi-monotone of the narrator, it's all good.
Right now I'm up to February 1940 and I've learned some new things, precisely because this series drills it down day by day. If you want more of a grand sweep approach, don't watch this. It will bore you to tears.
You can rent this on Amazon Prime or it's pretty damn expensive at $6 per 1 hour episode to buy it, and there's 73 episodes I think. I would recommend either getting it via Amazon Prime or another streaming source.
