I think there's a cat rule that says no human may occupy a bathroom unless accompanied by at least one cat. There are claw marks along the bottom inside edge of one of my bathroom doors as a result of my having the nerve to want some privacy and closing the door. One of the cats learned how to work doorknobs as a result of desperately needing to watch me in the bathroom.

interesting. One of the behaviors discussed was about cats and their humans in the bathroom. According to the video, cats in the wild are vulnerable when needing to go, and if there is another cat with them, that cat will act as a guard. So when their human goes to the bathroom, the cats' instinctive behaviour is to guard. My guy comes in, plants himself directly in front of me, facing out, completely alert. Every single time.

(Note: I did not check the credentials of the person, so have no idea of their actual qualifications but did find the video interesting.)

... because it is your most vulnerable point of being attacked in the wild and being looked upon as easy prey.

So the cats follow, hangout, and stand guard while you do your bathroom duties and chores. Ready to protect you should a wild beast attacker show up unannounced and catch you off guard.

I would imagine the same applies to dogs.

My dog guards ONLY ME when in the bathroom despite the other three humans living in the same house.

I don’t exactly know what that means …….
