So often, when we post here,

it's either a picture of a new family member or one we've rescued. And yes... I am SO jealous of you who can post pics. I just can't seem to make it work for me!

The other reason, unfortunately, is to mourn a family member who has passed. I thought that's what I'd be doing this weekend, and to say I was panicking, heartsick, and at wit's end is to state an understatement.

I have a very tiny cat I rescued from a kill pound 20 years ago. She's a Japanese Bobtail (not a Manx). She's four pounds of spit and thunder with a puffball. While you can never put a price on such things, with her convoluted colon, we've spent thousands keeping her healthy and her colon flowing freely. And every penny, even those we scraped together, were given gratefully to the talented vet we'd been with for years. Izzie was that special to us.

Don't get me wrong, all my babies are special to me. Last year at this time, I lost 2 who were over 20 (one was 23) and another to a diabetic crisis in space of 3 months. I thought they were going to have to help ME over the Rainbow Bridge. Especially because of the one I lost to diabetes.

But when I had my hip replaced and was working from home, Izzie spent 8 hours a day laying across my arms while I worked on the computer. Then she led me to bed to lay down. When I worked the stairs during rehab, she was right there with me for every step.

The last two weeks, she's changed from being with us in the Family Room to staying exclusively on my bed. This past Monday, she didn't wake up when I did. I admit I poked her hard until she raised her head quite disgustedly at me. I should say she is now deaf as a post. Day before yesterday she sat herself in front of my shower while I was in there. She's never done anything like that... EVER before. I just knew I was on the last days with her, and was so heartbroken. But the day before, when she had gone into a coughing fit, I made an emergency appt with the vet here that I trust in this little town, and they fit me the next day.

We ran blood labs and x-rays. Izzie's got thyroid problems we're treating and the treatment is going well. Her lab numbers, even for her kidneys are great, I'm happy to say. She was a little dehydrated, so they gave her intravenous fluids, and then I told them to take her back for X-rays. It means I'm going to be scrimping a bit for a while, but the peace of mind they gave me made up for it. They showed NO masses anywhere in her little body. Her lungs are good, no masses in her stomach, and even her colon is good (which my hubby was thrilled with!). We're thinking now her coughing fit might have been either because of the dry heated winter air in the house (especially my bedroom), or even the fur from the other cats. There are at least 6 who sleep each night on the bed.

So... instead of writing an "in memoriam"... I'm writing a "Hallelujah! Bast be praised!" This little black puff ball cat that stole our hearts is not ready to give up yet, even at the ripe old Queen's age of 20, and her Mama ain't ready to give up on her, either. She's spoiled rotten, and will continue to be so for as long as she'll let me. Besides, she spent all last night curled in my arms around my neck while we both slept. How much more peace can there be at night for one person? To love and know you're loved just as much in return.

I only wish I could post a pic. (sigh)

2. Hello

With regard to posting images -- you can use a service like this:

https://postimages.org/

Upload your image there, and it will give you a URL (a link) for the image.

Then you just paste that link in your post on DU, and it should show up automatically as an image.

You can use the Preview button to make sure it looks correct before posting.

Hope that helps!

The URL should end with .jpg or .gif for it to work on DU.

I had a Japanese bobtail who was also part Turkish Swimming Cat - classic orange ears and orange tail, and white everywhere else. I actually got him in Japan while I was stationed there in the Air Force nurse corps. I brought him back to the US with me when my tour ended. There was no way I could have left him there.

I thought his tail he’d been injured somehow, as it was bent at a 90 degree angle right in the middle, like it had been closed in a door. The base veterinarian explained that strangely shaped tails were very common in Japanese cats.

His name was Max, and he was quite a character. Even people who said they didn’t like cats liked Max.

my Dad named him "Tojo" (gryn). He was a silver tabby and had a different type of tail than Izzie does. But he definitely shared the same type of attitude. I lost him shortly after moving from Texas to Kansas. Lost him to cancer. Took years to get over that.

Izzie... man, she is one black little spitfire. It's only now in her old age that some of the fur is getting white-tipped... much like mine, I'd say! Her tail is just one small stub with a puff of fur all over and around it... like a cottonball. I'd never seen the breed before, I just knew on Halloween's eve, with that being her "last day" at the pound and her holding on to me like she did, I couldn't put her back in that little cage. I was just amazed that they let me adopt a pure black cat on Halloween... not that I was complaining, mind you!

I meant to tell you how jealous I am you got overseas... and especially to Japan. I never got out of stateside. When my ex asked to take our daughter with him to Osaka AB, I hesitated for about 2 seconds and said "yes." She was young, but I tried to tell her everything she could see and soak up in Japan. It's one of the places I've always wanted to visit. First, the old home sod of Ireland, tho... (gryn)

I use it all the time, and it really is incredibly easy. I know some people have trouble figuring it out, but like like a lot of things in life, it's nowhere near as complicated as it looks. If you know where your pics are stored on your device, you're already halfway there.

And I found him as a kitten in a supermarket parking lot one night on my way home. He grew up to be a beautiful cat.

This was my very first pic of him:

I think that's 30 years old. I was hoping Micki, my 23 year old, would make it, but it wasn't to be. Izzie is in better shape than Micki... who somebody left behind in the house. The landlord came by to check the house and let the cat out... declawed!... when my Mom found her and gave her to me.

I don't know what kind of early life Izzie had, but being a small military school town, I assume one of the students got transferred and decided the cost and hassle of taking her was too much. His loss. My gain.

I’m so happy she’s a healthy old lady and wish you lots of wonderful time together.

Earl G is ever helpful and patient and brings the best solutions to our issues.

I’m trying several photo hosting sites now, so I’ve bookmarked this post you made about your precious companion so I can try out the photo site you use.

What I do when I want to save a post is look at the gray bar at the bottom of the post and click the box with the blue ribbon that says Bookmark this thread. Next time you need that information, go to the very top of the DU page you’re on and click “my bookmarks” (it’s just above the Google search box) and voila! There’s the post with the information you want or need.

Hope this is helpful, slightlv.

so I'm coming back to your message for this. For some dumb reason I can't see a bookmark this thread. But it's probably just tired eyes and mind at this point. Its been a long night. I appreciate the info... I'd seen the "my bookmarks" and wondered what and how. I usually just end up with a LONG list of "other bookmarks" on my browser bar. Thanks!

Everything is more challenging when we’re tired. 😉

When you’re ready, look at the bottom of your original post.
Between that and before all the comments from your DU family there’s a light gray bar.
In that gray bar you have 3 choices: thread info, bookmark this thread, and trash this thread.

Bookmark this thread is in the middle and has a blue ribbon on it. Right above it in the white area of your original post is the Tweet icon. Look for the tweety bird and the "bookmark this thread”
is right below it.

Now get some rest with your sweet cats. Sending you some sweet Shalom, peace be with you.
