Related: About this forumI really didn't need this, today
Just saw Arthur licking his bottom so I automatically checked. His rectum is, again, red and swollen. Not as bad as before but still red and swollen. I had checked him earlier, today, because it's become a habit, and he was just fine.
It's too late to get him to the vet, tonight, but we will be there first thing in the morning. They are open until noon.
Meanwhile, I'll be doing hourly butt checks. I'm glad we all too a long nap, this afternoon.

Healing vibes on the way to Arthur & your nerves.

(27,267 posts)He's in no pain and there's no bloating. I'm just wondering if he's had some hard stools and needs me to add some sort of laxative to his diet. I'll be asking the vet about that.
I am also going to ask the vet for one of those cones to keep him from licking it.

(27,267 posts)I'm sure there will be dietary instructions after the procedure.
He did say to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't start to push out. If that happens I have to rush him to an emergency hospital.
I'm not too worried. The last time this happened was Saturday, Christmas Eve so I couldn't get him to the vet until Monday. But, of course, I will be constantly checking.

(27,267 posts)The meat is thawed and I've been soaking the beans overnight so I might as well follow through. I can always freeze it.

And to stay grounded amidst all this stress.
How are the other kitties responding to himwearing the cone?

(4 posts)Probiotics? They really help my dog. Your vet can recommend a good one

(27,267 posts)I'm just relieved his behavior is as usual, so I wonder if cats can develop hemorrhoids.
And, welcome to DU!!
Have been a long time member, but just read posts. Forgot my password and user name, but I just had to respond, so I went through the whole rigamarole. Probiotics are also helpful for hemorrhoids. Love your posts and your devotion to the animals.

(27,267 posts)And it's always possible it has happened before that, I didn't notice, and it cleared by itself. Who knows. I do know I don't want to chance just waiting to see.

(20,653 posts)A friend has a cat that developed a swollen, red bottom to the point it was bleeding. It turned out she is allergic to jail st about everything but chicken. Once she fixed her diet, no more swollen bottom and I go all the food she couldn't use for the ferals that live at my apt complex 😃
