PORT WASHINGTON ‒ If cats have nine lives, three stranded kittens used up at least one of theirs after a harrowing experience stranded on the Tuscarawas River ice.
Shortly before 3:30 p.m. Friday, Tuscarawas County Sheriff's deputies found a box of kittens, which had been thrown off the St. Clairsville bridge, according to a press release from Arrowhead Joint Fire District Chief Steven M. Wright.
That left the kittens in the middle of the river, stranded on deteriorating ice. Mild temperatures had melted plenty of snow and ice in the region.

I really hope they find who did this terrible act and punish them to the fullest extent of the law. NO exuse for this at all!

(25,396 posts)I pick up worms off the sidewalk after a rain storm, and put them back in the grass so they don't dry up and die. I put spiders back outside if I don't want them in the house.
Unbelievably cruel. What the hell is wrong with people like this? I hope they do not have children.

(4,283 posts)I read about them and what they've done. My blood pressure rises, my heart breaks for the poor critters. I want to cry, and often I break down and do cry. I can't imagine anyone being that cruel to anything, let alone a helpless animal.
Like I said, thankfully, I've never met anyone like this. The only time I came close was when I thought there were boys in the side yard going after cats with a baseball bat, the yowling was so bad. I immediately ran downstairs and grabbed the biggest club I could find from the hot tub room and made my way outside in my PJ's, ready to do REAL damage to the boys.
Turns out, it was a male tom cat who had a kitten treed, and the kitten was screaming bloody murder. Since there was only one kit, I'm assuming the others fell victim to one or more feral toms in the neighborhood. As I ran off the tom, I stood under the branch and tried to coo at the kitten to get him to come down. Well, he came down, alright... right on top of my head... all four feet splayed and claws out! I never even thought about trying to find a home for that kitten. He had one right with me, until he died 13 years later of a hellacious tumor. One of the best damned cats I ever had; looked like a beige panther. Still miss him to this day. Know what I named him? Peaches!!!! What else do you call something so sweet falling from a tree like that? (LOL)

(18,918 posts)Cruelty of animals happens too often. When I read things like this, I hope the sadists rot in hell.
I'm glad the firemen saved the kitties, and I hope there is a happy ending for the little things.

(25,364 posts)Anyone willing to torturously kill kittens will engage in IPV. The research on this is everywhere and very clear. Shame on whoever did this. I'd bet money they are already known to law enforcement.
