I'm happy to report that the little shelter I made for the kittens is still being used

It's raining and I just looked out to see one of the ferals curled up on the straw bed, nice and dry. Now to find something to extend the roof and make the bed bigger.

We buy bales of hay and just start stacking in a brick pattern. Offset the entrance. You can use Karadeniz Oct 2022 #3

make it? I have a couple of feral cats that I'm concerned for when the weather turns bad. I've done some research on what might be best but am still not sure what to do. The 2 cats are not the friendliest to each other so I might need 2 different ones.

anything to span the sides to lay the roof. We wrap the finished product in a sturdy canvas for waterproofing. We use the entire bale and ours have lasted eons. I don't see why it would hurt to split the bales for small animals. For tall dogs... or our deer... we drive T-posts into the sides to make sure no one accidentally pushes a bale out. Make sure the entrance faces away from the north wind!

So I took off the logs and raised it with some paving blocks. Then I stretched an old tarp over the frame to give it a weatherproof roof.

I had an old litter pan that I used for gardening stuff. I filled it with straw and put it beneath the raised rack. It is in a corner location so protected on 2 sides. I'm going to figure out a way to close more of it off so they can use it when it snows.
