Wow! Bruiser showed up and let me give him EXTENDED pets and scritches

He just walked up to me and the scritching began. Normally he runs away from me. And, little Gwyn was there - no doubt he's the father. No need of Maury Povich to see that.

And, of course, I didn't have my phone with me so no photos. Damn.

I'm going to go out and see if he's still around, phone in hand, just in case.

1. I fostered a feral older kitten. Her first name was Samantha, but I decided it wasn't nice to name

her for the witch she was. I didn't put her up for adoption because what personality she had varied from cold to hostile. For TWO years she ignored me...she was an indoor cat. Actually, she didn't like anyone.. Then one evening, she jumped into my lap, flipped over onto her back and waited for belly rubs! My husband and I couldn't believe it! Toodles never reverted to her old ways.

Sometimes they'll change their mind without telling you and...SURPRISE!!! Hopefully, Bruiser has had an epiphany!!!

2. I had a "Bruiser"

he was a battered old cat that came for "Thanksgiving" and decided to stay. He lived with us for quite a few months, and then one night went to sleep, and never woke up again. I think he was looking for a nice place to spend his last days, and he found it with us. He was one of a kind. And you're right, they can flip on a dime. I'm glad yours did. We loved every minute we got to spend with our Bruiser; he was the best cat. He wanted to be with us, and we were overjoyed to have him with us. Even the dogs enjoyed him, and he liked fooling around with them. Even taught my Border Collie to stop on the sidewalk before crossing the street. He was smart, intelligent, and gentle. And you just knew he wasn't that way his entire life. From the look of him, he'd battered and bruised his way through his entire life.

These are best kinds of cats, I swear. They give you their soul and their hearts. Enjoy, Siwsan. You've earned it!

3. Looks like Bruiser has noticed that you

take good care of his kids when they need it, so he's bringing Gwyn around.

OK, so male cats don"t look after their offspring like females do. But cats do learn from observation and experience. Bruiser has had plenty of opportunities to observe your interactions with the other ferals so he is able to give some trust to you.

Also, some time ago, you posted a pic of him. He looked like a cat who once had a family and then was abandoned or lost. So maybe, as he sees you with the other ferals and taking some of them indoors, it brings back vague memories and feelings of a time that he spent with humans.
