Related: About this forumI went to mulch my garden this morning and some of my fall planted bulbs are sprouting
should I still mulch over them? I can't believe how warm the weather has been...and I fear I will lose them if they half bloom now. It is mostly the hyacinths that are starting to peek up out of the ground.
I am in zone 7a

(21,615 posts)I use Evergreen Soil Conditioner, which I get at Lowe's. I also use this, as well as similar products, to condition planting beds, condition soil when planting woody trees and shrubs, mulch both perennial and annual beds, mulch container plants, and mix 50-50 with potting soil for container plantings.
Soil conditioner will protect the bulbs, condition the soil, and look good!
My bulbs are also coming up here in Northeast Georgia.

(94,933 posts)an hour north of the 45th parallel and some of our bulbs are sprouting and some of the plants in the beds along the house haven't completely died off yet, but we've mulched them.

(4,441 posts)and I love the color blue so I really want them to bloom in the Spring
I always have daffs and grape hyacinths come up in December. I'm on the border between 7 and 8. They've always been fine, even after some low 20's temps. This year is especially early--I think because we had some cold weather followed by mild temps and plenty of rain. This year I had one narcissus and a "spring" camellia bloom. My hellebores are starting to show bud close to the ground.
