FINALLY got most of the veg garden planted

20 tomato - San Marzano, Golden Jubilee, Grape and 4th of July (first time with this one). 20 pepper plants - Green Bell, Sweet Red and Orange, Chili and Scotch Bonnet. Then the squash - Zucchini, Acorn and Delicata. Still have to get the yellow squash and some other miscellaneous things planted that I started from seed. I think tomorrow is soon enough for those. My back isn't hurting YET. I'm exhausted, but still feeling pretty accomplished.

Hopefully I can recover enough, this afternoon, to get some flowers in the ground. I guess that might depend on how much Chardonnay I down, in celebration.

Admittedly, this is one of the latest plantings I've ever done, but we DID have a frost advisory, last night, so all in all I'm glad I had to wait.

1. Our veggies are late going in this year, too.

Got the lettuces, cukes, and tomatoes in so far. Eggplants are still in the cold frame. Green beans were planted right in the ground last week.

What do you make or do you can/freeze your bounty?

2. I make a great marinara sauce with the San Marzanos. And make/freeze stewed tomatoes

I put peppers in the mix, and also freeze diced and sliced peppers. I use them in soups, curries and stews, all Winter long. Or, I cook them up, use the immersion blender and create an interesting pasta sauce. I also grow my own garlic, oregano and basil.

I planted Scotch Bonnets for my nephew in law. For me, I planted Chili Peppers that I will dry for those soups, stews and curries.

We eat the grape tomatoes like candy and I have a couple of good dishes I use them in, like Lemon Rice and pasta dishes.

3. I've been all planted since the 20th.

No risks of frost, though two back to back 48 degree days is a real gut punch. The record low maximums are in the mid 50s, so this is very extreme weather for southern New England.

4. I hit the perfect conditions, post rain

It rained a few days ago so the soil was perfect for planting. The plants went in really easy. I'm going to give them a light drink of water with the garden hose. I haven't even found the garden sprinkler, yet! I probably put it somewhere that I thought I wouldn't forget.

5. Most of my garden won't be planted until about the 11th -15th of June

I'm hoping on getting the cool weather crops (the beets, carrots, radishes, cabbage) planted in the next couple of days.

The cukes, pumpkins, beans, tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, and corn won't be planted or transplanted until at least the 11th of June.
