(37,449 posts)Something they call Guinness stew. Lots of potatoes, beef, in brown gravy with onions and carrots. Smells great. I also have a container of their spring vegetable soup.

(592 posts)We've had bacon and cabbage for the last 2 years. I asked DH if he was interested in a threepeat and he didn't really answer. Asked again, mentioning that if I was going to cure the bacon, I had to do it soon. No answer. Wednesday, I picked up the corned beef and he asked "We're not having bacon?". Boo, hiss.
Anyway, it's in the crockpot and smells great; we can hardly wait. Cabbage, carrots, colcannon and brown bread on the side with lemon pudding cake for dessert.
It's not a holiday without special food.

(5,630 posts)then discovered that we DIDN'T actually get corned beef from the market the other day, but corned pork.
Made one of those a few years ago, and know it will be very good, but not sure how we missed reading the label on the package when we picked it up!
Put that in the smoker along with some country pork ribs with brisket bone. Will drain out the drippings and cook the cabbage, carrots, and potatoes in a broth made from that.
Picked up a couple of crowlers (2-pint cans) of stout from our brewery yesterday.
