(504 posts)Scalloped potatoes, with a little garlic and a topping of parm and bread crumbs. Popovers. Cranberry sauce. Chopped liver for an appetizer. Chocolate layer cake with cream cheese frosting. And a sip or two of Coquito for after. Yeah, i could use a green vegetable, but we'll be too full to eat it. There'll be a week of leftovers.
Funny thing is, I'm not the least bit religious, but a big solstice meal is kind of a tradition. And anyway, what else are we going to do? The whole city is shut down and we can't go anywhere or do anything else.
DH is watching holiday movies on TV. I got out the DVD "It's a Wonderful Life" for him yesterday and pulled "A Christmas Story"?? - the one with Ralphie - for today. My only tradition is "Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol" and a particular cd (Noel McLoughlin) from Ireland. DH's aunt got it when she was told it was traditional and very good. She listened once and promptly sent it to us with the message "This is the worst thing I've ever heard, so I thought of you." She honestly didn't mean it the way it came out. It is very good, but has not a thing on it that was ever heard on Lawrence Welk. I suspect the problem was also a bit of progressive politics.

This years pie was a new recipe for crust. Let dough rise in a large iron skillet. Then top and bake. Delicious. Had an early supper. Getting dark now at 4:20 p.m.

It was good. But too much work. I like that angel hair pasta suggested above. 😋
