Cooking & Baking
Related: About this forumI just started a sour dough starter, so send me some of your best tips and recipes.
The starter is bubbling up nicely and the odor is wonderful and so sour, already. I can't wait to start using it next week. I've looked up a lot of tips and recipes on the internet, and I could use more. I read one recipe for sourdough biscuits. And pancakes sound delicious.
So, if you have some easy peasy and delicious recipes, I'd love to try them. Lol, I looked one up that used the bread machine and I thought that would be cool because the sourdough can be quite sticky. But, the amount of stretching and pulling and scraping made me scrap that recipe!
Any shortcuts or tips would be appreciated. And did you start yours or do you have a cool family or friend story about the "mother?" Thanks!!

(299 posts)I have a sourdough starter that I have maintained for almost 20 years now. Sourdough is extremely resilient even if it appears to be a lost cause. FEED it regularly.

Oh wow, I just perused what you posted, thank you! I love baking bread and adore sourdough bread. I've got some reading to do while waiting for my starter to mature.
Am I the only cooking/baking geek that gets so excited about new recipes? 😆 I guess my love of good food is my inspiration. Maybe I should try making beer.

(299 posts)I like the publications pancake and waffle recipes they are simple. Besides pancake starter doesn't require alot of effort to maintain the drier and a higher texture consistency needed for dough. Have fun.

(24,963 posts)My mom made a wonderful sourdough bread , but no one ever got her recipe ☹️
And the only thing I know about it bc I asked was what she fed the starter and she told me she used instant mashed potato flakes . 😐
I always wondered if that was her great secret ingredient and have asked others and no one ever used it .
Thanks
