I bought way too much sausage, Spätzle, Bavarian pretzels, and the all-important Jaffa cakes. I may have to go back for strudel.

(15,198 posts)But I wasnt looking for potato pancake mix. They did have some kind of frozen German potato mix, but I didnt pay much attention to that, either, being distracted by the vast selection of torts and cakes in the freezer case.

(15,198 posts)Ive never used a mix, so cant tell you what thats about, but I grew up in a household where Kartoffelpuffer were standard fare. Theyre easy to make. Grate three or four peeled large starchy potatoes on the big holes of a box grater along with one onion. Mix in about a tablespoon of kosher salt and set in a colander to drain. After half an hour or so, squeeze out any liquid from the potatoessome people use a dish towel, but I just use my hands. Mix in an egg and a largish spoonful of flour or potato starch. Fry in oil.

(10,307 posts)page. I figured that my Aldi wouldn't have it as it is a very small store. Today, I was in the much larger store in the nearest larger town, I stopped to see if they had it. Sadly, they only had one of the savory strudels and none of the dessert strudels. I really need to try this chocolate raspberry one.

(15,198 posts)I would definitely have gotten one. I went back for more this morning and scored apple strudel as well as berry strudel and spinach strudel.
