There is a difference between people doing "worse on drugs" and people doing "worse than those given a placebo". The former could scare people away from using medication that are more likely to be helpful than not. This is what happens when the uneducated media tries to spin research to fit its agenda.

miracle that I didn't kill myself, I was so mentally messed up by it.

The only thing I liked about it was it helped with the physical pain I experienced, but when I was taken off of it, then pain was excruciating.
