Bear with me reading my constant troubles. My molars don't meet in the back, front teeth moved forward, teeth removal destabilized my bite arch, yadda yadda...25k to "worst-case-scenario" 32k.
I left the office a zombie. This is a good, skilled ethical specialist. I don't need another opinion at this point. Theyve taken every diagnostic available and showed me all the data. Theyll work to do just what needs to be done for function.
So... I'm gutted. I do, now, have some information that's sinking in and I'm processing it. Not knowing was stressful.
Thank you all. Might try weaning off the orthotic first and see what happens.

(13,633 posts)I'm not ready to go there. Spent so much money on keeping my teeth. I admit it crossed my mind...

(3,701 posts)...whatever you think of the idea, at least contact Dr. Oscar Torres of Pacific Dental. In Tijuana. Yes, I know. But in 2003 he fixed a similarly bad problem for me for about 1/4 what it would have cost in the US, including the flights to San Diego. And he is a very experienced expert at this kind of work, much more so than most US dentists. US medical people love to spread horror stories about medical tourism, but my reconstruction is still fine after 20 years. Also nowadays they have better services like shuttles that will take you directly from your hotel to the office and back, which didn't exist when I had my work done.
Added: I wrote an article about my experience which inspired a lot of people, but is waaaaay out of date. Here is a more recent testimonial though by someone who was inspired by my article:

I doubt your problem is as bad as that of someone who has years of meth mouth to fix.

If I was closer, I would. Due to many medical appointments here, its not really possible. No, its not meth mouth. I'll take a look at this

(6,221 posts)And, I already have more issues to deal with. I should have had them all pulled and gone with the fake ones. I have had a few friends who did this and they are much happier without any tooth hassle at all as opposed to fighting a losing battle. I hear you about the effort and money that went into trying to keep what you have, though. I did some of that and just had to concede that being stupid when I was young did me in. (Being manic depressive has a level of blame in this as well, but arrogant stupidity accounts for most of it.)
