The gym manager offered me a part time job today. I would be the Saturday person, no other

staff there - giving tours to prospective members, showing newcomers how to use the various machines, assisting members with spots when requested, and normal/routine cleaning.

It doesn't sound like much of a job, but at 70 and being considered healthy-looking enough to represent the gym to newcomers/members, I consider it a compliment.

...in the thread about dead lifts I would say to be careful when doing spots for people on the bench. It puts you in an awkward angle to lift in case you need to help someone out. It could cause an injury.

gym alway come in groups of two or three. I've never seen one of the 'big lifters' by himself.

People there by themselves who have asked me for a spot have not been using but 200 - 225 lbs. on bench press. The ones by themselves who do squats always seem to use the Smith rack (which I don't like to use BTW). I think I'll be ok.

On the Smith rack/machine, I cannot get both hands far enough back to grasp the bar after I get it in the right place on my traps - we think it might be because the guide bar is at a slight angle. Don't have that problem on the long bar on the squat rack.

to not use the smith rack because it 'cheats' you of some of the overall benefits of squatting. Mainly the muscles you have to use to balance yourself while squatting 'freestyle'.
