Make damn sure you are not wearing socks on carpeted stairs. Surprised I did not break my freaking neck.

Uphill good, downhill bad for me too. One way you suck some air. The other could cause serious injury or worse. Take trekking poles not necessarily for the uphill but for the down. IMO
