(33,957 posts)Takes a minute. Those infection can turn into sepsis.
My Urologist has a standing order at her office for me. I can walk in and get tested anytime. Just step in and pee in the cup.
Good luck and never think twice about getting checked out.

(12,179 posts)Going to urgent care or the ER is the only way youll get a test on the weekend.
If youre having minor symptoms (burning, cloudy urine, frequency) a place like MedExpress would work. I know they can do simple testing. Dont know if they can run a culture or not. They may send you to a a place like LabCorp for a culture if they need it since it takes a couple of days to get those results.
If you have kidney pain, blood in the urine, or are running a high fever, you may want to do the ER instead or the hospitals Urgent Care. The indication I had sepsis from a UTI was I spiked a 103 temp and chills that wouldnt stop. They kept me in the hospital on IV antibiotics for a few days.
Not sure if you live near me or not, but if do and you ever need to go to an ER, Christiana Care ER in Middletown is much faster at patient intake than at CC ER in Newark.
I get them frequently and am currently on a strong antibiotic for one. Best of luck! Im going to see if theyll issue a standing order for me since I can tell when theyre coming on.

(35,095 posts)Im such a coward when it comes to medical things. Mostly bladder pain and urgency but I started getting some chills and my fever thermometer has got a dead battery. I took some amoxicillin I had left over from the dentist but I dont think it worked, what type of antibiotic do they give you?

(3,398 posts)Random leftover antibiotics can make things worse. Please do go in. Youll feel better! Take care.

(3,398 posts)But taking less than a full course of prescribed antibiotics can create surviving strains that are antibiotic resistant. We all need to be careful about that. I get being reluctant to seek medical attention. Thats totally understandable. But please do go. And let us know how youre doing. Ok?

Go!

If you screw around there can be serious problems.
Just go in and pee in a cup and let the nurses and doctor evaluate it.

for a suspected infection of any kind.
Reason 1. There shouldnt be any leftovers because that means you didnt finish a course of treatment prescribed for something else.
Reason 2. The full potency may have diminished depending on how old the medication is and/or it may not be the right drug for the problem.
Reason 3. When you partially treat an infection by taking a leftover antibiotic, you screw up the doctor/NP/PAs ability to accurately diagnose the problem.
