According to recent research conducted on individuals with a cluster of heart disease risk factors, ingesting green tea extract for four weeks can decrease blood sugar levels and enhance gut health by reducing inflammation and leaky gut.

At least three of the five risk factors for heart disease, diabetes, and other health issuesexcess belly fat, high blood pressure, low HDL (good) cholesterol, high levels of fasting blood glucose, and triglycerides, a form of blood fatare present in people with metabolic syndrome.
Results showed that fasting blood glucose levels for all participants were significantly lower after taking green tea extract compared to levels after taking the placebo. Decreased gut inflammation due to the green tea treatment in all participants was established through an analysis that showed a reduction in pro-inflammatory proteins in fecal samples. Using a technique to assess sugar ratios in urine samples, researchers also found that with green tea, participants small intestine permeability favorably decreased.
That absorption of gut-derived products is thought to be an initiating factor for obesity and insulin resistance, which are central to all cardiometabolic disorders, Bruno said. If we can improve gut integrity and reduce leaky gut, the thought is well be able to not only alleviate low-grade inflammation that initiates cardiometabolic disorders but potentially reverse them.

I tried drinking 3-5 cups per day of green tea, but the caffiene was way too much for me.
Happy to say I found a high quality supplement made with decaf green tea & ordered it right up.
The article did not say this, but with reports of increased blood glucose & high inflammation in people with long covid, I'm thinking this could be a win-win for those suffering with long covid.

(10,259 posts)... I got some Black Tea to alternate with my Green Tea and grew to like the taste better... now, I think I should go back to alternating, or even all-Green Tea. I drink one cup of coffee and one cup of tea daily. I wonder, why is the Green Tea healthier...

(59,449 posts)For some reason, I can't drink enough green tea (5 cups/day), but I found a high quality, reasonably priced green tea supplement that will have the same effect without causing the jittery feeling.
Sadly, as the article states, the 5 risk factors usually don't cause symptoms...
Needless to say, I have all 5 risk factors.
So, I'm trying to be proactive here.

(3,582 posts)Dry clay pit fermented tea, called Red or Oolong tea has a different but similarly effective antioxidant capabilities. Much smoother and less bitter than green tea. And it is high in Theanine, which takes lots off the edge of caffeine.

(59,449 posts)I think it's supposed to be lower in caffiene than black tea, but I can drink diet cola, coffee, & iced tea all day without jittery feeling & when I tried drinking 3-5 cups green tea per day, I was really wired.
Sadly, I have all 5 of the risk factors mentioned, none of which tend to cause symptoms...
But I'm happy to say I found a high quality, reasonably priced decaf supplement that will deliver the equivalent of the 5 cups / day with very low caffiene. Of course, I ordered it right up!
I can let you know how it sits on my stomach if you are interested.

(221,051 posts)I've also tried other herb tea, found a blueberry one I like, but I add sugar to coffee or tea. I got used to coffee at an early age, when we visited my Polish grandmother, she was the one who got up with my brother and me, would fix us coffee with milk and sugar - I got a cup and my brother got a little glass So that's where and how I learned to like it, my brother, too.

(46,740 posts)Dr. Sten Ekburg, Dr. Berg, and a slew of others. Sten's the man! Chiropractor who dissects subjects to the max. And there was some doctor who cured herself of MS with kale? Seriously. Kale is involved in liver/pancreas/gall bladder. Just not too much of it. And these things are all involved in belly fat, suddenly another marker for disease. It's a big thrust with Lucy Wyndham-Reed, the UK fitness guru. Work on that belly fat. And sugar is more a marker for heart disease than beef and fat, unless your fat is trans and cheeburgers, cheeburgers.
The knowledge is out there to help ourselves if we look.
Doctors don't tell you when you see them. Eat less sugar. Diabetes is inevitable. You should enjoy life. Medicine, unless it's serious specialties, is prehistoric. They are AMA Republicans doling our meds as pharma reps and CDC bulletins recommend.

Everytime a dr rxs meds for me, they make me seriously sick. Statins for high cholesterol caused gerd & problem with esophagus, etc, etc, etc.
I'd never heard of Dr. Eckburg. I've watched Dr. Berg's videos & many folks I know have cured themselves of chronic conditions following his keto plan. Will look Dr. Eckburg up!
Yes, I love chiros and osteopaths that are dedicated to teaching patients the truth!
I had appt at gastro doc's with NP after procedure due to esophagus & told her about lifestyle changes, including how eating a banana coats esophagus to protect from gerd. She smiled & said, "oh, you're good at research. I always eat a banana when I take advil." She should have been providing the info to me.
And, just using the current example, NOBODY asked if I wre taking statins, so common in my age group. Grrrrr
What about people who aren't great at research???
And what a dirty racket the sugar & carb industry is!

Also you can google K2-D3 and dental health. Another reason I take it.

D3 alone is bad for kidney stones or other calcium deposits. The K2 directs it to the bones and teeth.

You just need to drink more tea or eat more chocolate to get the same wallop coffee delivers. I'm OK with that.
If you react badly to these things, eliminate them 8 hours before you usually go to bed. Their effects should be gone by then.
Also, you do tend to build up tolerance to these compounds. Stopping them suddenly will give you a ferocious headache. You will survive it, but you won't want to for a few days.
