Has anyone here had an anterior hip replacement done?
I had a posterior replacement on one hip about 10 years ago and now I'm pretty sure I need the other hip done. I've got an appointment Thursday with a surgeon who primarily does anterior replacements, but I can change my mind and see another doctor who does mainly posterior replacements. Thoughts?

(10,749 posts)And three people I've spoken with who have had this procedure in the past few years swear by the anterior hip replacement, though I don't think they had the posterior and so can't compare them.
I have to say, notwithstanding these three telling me "it's the best thing they ever did and they're sorry they didn't do it sooner," I'm not really looking forward to it. Sure, I'd love to put on my socks and shoes like a normal human person, and I really am not fond of the pain I have now, but when I think about what's going to happen, I find it more than a little unnerving.
Good luck.

(50,932 posts)even though I had the other hip done before. I honestly don't know why, because the first replacement went great. I remember waking up in the recovery room and - for the first time in years - had no pain. It was amazing. I really didn't have any pain to speak of either. Maybe your body gets more accustomed to pain when you've lived with it for a long time. They put one of those automatic painkiller machines next to the bed and I think I only hit it once and that was to see what it felt like. LOL. That was so stupid. Good luck to you, too. I know you'll feel a million percent better.

They gave me a sock puller, but I already had one since it was so hard with the bad hip. You want one of those for sure if you already don't have one.

(50,932 posts)before summer. It should just be an overnight in the hospital so that's not too bad. Time to drag the walker out of the attic. My instructions mention the wearing of compression stockings for a month after surgery to prevent blood clots. Has anyone had any experience with these? Any favorite brands? This is the only thing in the instructions that sounds like kind of a nuisance, but I'll just do whatever they tell me to do.
