Cancer Support
Related: About this forumThey are after me again.
I thought I had things straightened out with Social Security. Now they want more. They want information on an Illinois teacher's letterhead that breaks down every penny of the money I received as a substitute teacher. What I gave them, working with my congressman's office, was not enough.
I just went through a tremendous scare and emergency hospitalization with my cancer. Now this? Today I meet with another cancer team. God help me get through this. I can't take any more.
I contacted the Congressman's helper again. The email she sent me got lost. Only the attachment, with the demands, remains. I hope she sends me another email. I am ready to give up and die.

(31,411 posts)but not today. I have to meet with a new oncology team today. I am frightened. If they take my SS, will that take away my Medicare coverage, that I need for my health care?
I will ask the congressional helper to send me a snail mail, so that I can contact the teacher retirement people and the Social Security people. My email is giving me troubles, and I need help with this mess. Maybe another source would help. I don't want this, or cancer to kill me. I am feeling sicker than ever after getting that email, and then losing it into the universe.

(92,332 posts)Organizations, like a senior center or referral service to help you with the administrative stuff? You're ill and need someone to assist so you aren't dealing with all the minutia and big stuff while you are seeking care.
Not sure how to find the resources but a clinic or senior center might have some leads.

(6,038 posts)Sometimes there are case workers for cancer patients that help with these problems. I hope that you can find some relief. These rules are cruel.

(31,411 posts)She has given me good help in the past. I was happy enough with her that I sent a handwritten note to the congress person she works for. She will help me. She knows that I have cancer, too. Not that that is the main issue here! Maybe I will get some help within the next few days, or right after the holidays.

(31,411 posts)They did so quite abruptly. I think it may have been the Congressman's helper.
I received a letter from SS, stating that they had received my refund. It was just under $1500.00. The letter stated that they had used the refund to "lower" my SS overpayment. It was the first I knew about an overpayment. Anyhow, they started sending me SS checks in the correct amount in November. I am getting checks now and no further threats.
My Congressperson is a Republican, but in this case, there was nothing partisan. His constituent services person did exactly what she was supposed to do. It took some time, but she did it.
