Anyone see "Marriage Story"? Thoughts?

I think it could have been called "Divorce Story." A lot of it was painful to watch, but overall I thought it was well done. The two principals were great. I did get a little choked up when Adam Driver was reading the letter near the end of the movie.

Scarlett and Adam and their son were really, really good. Laura Dern, Alan Alda and Ray Liotta also great in supporting roles. Divorce is painful. The arc of Adam’s character was fascinating. It is a good watch.

The writer/director Noah Baumbach, admits that it's semi-autobiographical, about his divorce from Jennifer Jason Leigh, but I have to wonder she's okay with that. And if someone is going to base a movie on their own painful divorce, they'd better be fucking honest. From what I've read in reviews, it doesn't sound like he was.

Movie maybe a 6-7? Not sure why it got an Oscar nod. Perhaps since there are so few decent dramas about people?

I read a secret Oscar voter's opinion on all the nominees. That person said that they would never vote for it. Because they were Off-Broadway actors/directors who would never have much money - certainly not enough to afford a great apt or to fly back and forth to CA.

Loved The Irishman. Had high hopes for this one (we really like Scarlett - Lost in Translation one of our favorite movies) - this one made us cringe.

let alone have it nominated for awards. I think this is one that would have befitted from showing the same scenes from each of their point of view to give us a little more into why each one felt the way they did at the time. Instead, they relay it to us later and we are left wondering who is telling the truth.

And I guess I'm jaded by the lawyer battles because I've seen too much of this play out in the divorces of friend & family. Yeah yeah we get it.

sometimes whiney little self absorbed jerks, but they also have a cute adorable warm cuddly side.... otherwise why would we have them LOL. Maybe it was the particular child actor in the role, but I didn't particularly like that kid, nothing cuddly and loveable about him.
