"Snowfall" on Hulu
Just started watching this drama series which begins in 1983 Los Angeles and chronicles the emergence of the crack cocaine phenomenon in Southern California and the involvement of the CIA in the drugs-for-guns scheme to the Nicaraguan Contras.
It tells the tale by following 3 intersecting storylines: the CIA operative running the clandestine program; the South-central predominantly African-American neighborhood where an entrepreneur--the show's protagonist, Franklin Saint, a smart hardworking kid who doesn't use drugs--sees the influx of cocaine and figures out that converting it to the more accessible form of crack would penetrate the local market more easily; and a group of Mexican-Americans in an adjacent neighborhood basically doing the same thing.
It is fast-paced enough that I was hooked by the first episode. Only as I neared the end of the season (binged over 2 days) did I discover that it continues on for several more, nice! So at this point I am only a couple of episodes into the second season.
Have any of you watched this, and does the quality hold up?
As I grew up in Los Angeles and was there during this period, I am enjoying it just for the scenery and reminders of how life was, so my perspective is skewed. But it seems well done to me.
Check it out if you have Hulu.
