CBS All Access becomes Paramount-Plus... at first I was worried.

When I found out that CBS All Access was going to become known as Paramount-Plus, at first I was worried. But they had already done a "soft" roll-out of Paramount-Plus anyway a few weeks prior. There were new menus, more sections and greater choices... noticed it, but wasn't sure what was going on.

Now that the final transition has taken place... this has become one of our FAVORITE streaming channels.

It's tied with Netflix. Next favorite is Britbox & Hulu. HBO-Max and Showtime are fairly well tied. Then Peacock and AMC-Plus round-out our favorites and most viewed.

I think we're ready to cut the cord and make it officials. We don't need Fios-TV.

1. I'm curious what this does to reruns.

I tried looking for articles but really couldn’t find anything. Peacock has sitcoms from NBC ABC and CBS.

So you can watch on your schedule. The Office episodes have one ad in them. Modern Family has more than one.

4. It depends on what you mean by "reruns" ...

... for the current shows (ie: past seasons of current shows) it varies. Sometimes you can get ALL previous seasons, sometimes only the one or two most recent.

Peacock is owned by NBC-Universal... so they have a lot of old series that are owned by Universal (even though they may have originally aired on a different network).

Peacock is 100% free, and you have to put up with commercials. But it's not so bad. The ads are not SCREAMING at you or insulting your intelligence. --- Also, we've noticed that when watching older shows (ie: Rockford Files) they manage to put the commercials in the SAME places/pauses where the original commercials were inserted. There are some streaming channels that simply insert a commercial ever 6 minutes... even in the middle of a scene... with no regard for the original "breaks".

For Paramount+ and Hulu, we're "commercial-free" subscribers. It's worthwhile to us (for others, it may not be) but since we're about to officially cut the cord (and save over $120 by getting rid of Fios-TV and keeping only Fios-Internet) it's a worthwhile fee.

7. That putting commercial in in an appropriate spot is important

I watched Witness for the Prosecution on Tubi (or Pluto I don't remember). Commercial breaks in the middle of dialog.

I would have loved to access Peacock at launch, but right now it doesn't play well with my Fire TV box. I can get it through my Chromebook and PC, but that is a pain. Peacock did have a lot more attraction to me than Paramount + because of the Universal Monster content, but most of that is now gone.

It seems Disney has been willing to hold the line and put its vault of classics on its platform more than other services. It could be because of current licensing agreements, but I can't understand pulling the Universal monsters unless they know that their availability will eat into paid VOD. Of course who is going to pay $4 for Dracula???

11. True. We kept Fios WiFi but cut the cord

Peacock isn’t free. They are kind of mixing together on me at this point. Funny Jeff Goldblum told us before episode 1 of Modern Family that there’d only be one ad. That lasted for one episode. The Office on Peacock does only have one commercial per show.

housing, food, and transportation. I put a max of about $30/mo. on streaming content. I can very easily walk away if the pricing gets out of hand.

Well, enjoy the low streaming prices while you can. Bet there are mergers and acquisitions and price fixings on the horizon. And if not increases in content, definitely bandwidth and data transmission.

6. My favorite is Disney Plus because of the new content

I like watching the family movies with my wife. I love Star Wars and Marvel and watch these with my wife and daughter.

HBO Max has a significant portion of the Criterion Collection in it, and I have been working through a bunch of older movies. Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon, several Kurosawa movies, Godzilla, Charlie Chaplin, some Hitchcock, and of course a lot of DC content. HBO Max is my second favorite service. My six month subscription comes up at the end of June, and I am on the fence on renewing. I got a pretty good deal in December.

I share Netflix and Amazon Prime with my mom. There are some shows in Amazon that I really like (fewer shows but I probably like the Amazon ones more). Being a member of Prime means that I get frequent sign up offers for other movie sites like Showtime, Starz, and AMC+. I have a tendency to rotate through these as new content builds. Right now I am getting Starz for a $1/mo. They are running a $3/mo. offer right now. Amazon Prime also has a bunch of other advantages like an intro offer on Audible every year or so.

I am getting Hulu for $2/mo. for a year. I am not sure I will keep it after it is done. There is a significant overlap on movies with the other services.

I have Hoopla available through my library, and I can usually find a couple a movies a month to watch from that service as well.

I also have Scrbd which has a bunch of audiobooks, e books, Curiousity Stream, and Mubi for $10/mo. It is a better value than Audible in my opinion.

9. Yeah, me too, of course they will

Eventually start jacking the price.

I like the new equalizer with Latiffa(sp). And just started into the new Macgyver. Not bad for semi-brainless entertainment.

13. OMG! We LOVE HER!!! Our favorite CBS streaming dramas are Equalizer, All Rise, and Magnum.

Our favorite CBS streaming comedies are: B-Positive, Bob 💖 Abishola, Young Sheldon and Mom.

14. I used to watch CBS on my appleTV but now can only watch on ipad

CBS put a notice on the appleTV version saying the new app wasn't supporting appleTV.

So, I can still watch, but was nice watching on my TV versus ipad. And no, it won't let you connect to the TV with the free version. That's kinda sucky,

15. I wonder why that's the case. It's difficult to imagine that it has anything to do with...

... some sort of technical incompatibility. It's probably due to licensing, or competition, or some other financial consideration.

We upgraded our monthly subscription to the commercial-free version. (After years and years of DVR-ing to skip commercials... we still prefer to watch TV without them.)

Of course you can't skip them on free services like Peacock... but because it's free, and because we're able to choose and stream Peacock shows "on-demand" ... we think it's a fair trade, so we don't grumble too much.
