Just got back from seeing my new GP...🤣🤣🤣

My old one has retired. So this new on ask about my family health history. He is young and had a nice tan before I I gave him the low down.

Apparently he was not ready to hear:

Mom side:
Grandpa died of sudden heart attack
grandma died of heart failure
Mom, 1 sister died of cancer
2 sister, brother breast cancer survivors
Cousin did from brain aneurysm

Dad side:
Dad died of cancer
Grandma, grandpa dies of heart failure
Brother died from heart attack
Sister died of coronary on the operation table
Most of father side died due to heart issues

So he has now signed me up for a hug battery of test. I didn't even get into my siblings issues before he had. Me scheduled for a mammogram, colonoscopy, stress test, full body MRI and a lot of blood work.
He is also going to be talking to my Neurologist and getting the full story about my MS. He wants to know exactly what stage it is, exactly what parts of the brain it is affecting.
Apparently he feels he wasn't given my full medical file and he's going to build a complete one himself.

2. I truly didn't think a yearly checkup would open a can of worms.

The nurse that was with was one that knew me from other appointments with the old doctor. She said this is his first residency and she was sure I'm his first "wildfire"

I don't know what she meant by "wildfire " but I do know that he went and was yelling at someone about "incomplete files". Couldn't hear out the rest he was on someone about, but somebody or somebodies where getting chewed out.

And I was last patient of the day so had plenty of time to chew.

Could it have meant first MS case? That I was his first patient with such bad family history? I don't know.

The fact he was chewing people out loud enough for the OP to hear has me wondering, though. Incomplete records sounds more like the previous doctor's error, not anyone still around. Yelling to me is a strike against him, let alone yelling at the wrong people.

Then again, he could be both a good doctor and an asshole boss... The two aren't mutually exclusive.

12. Some doctors not

great at keeping good records. Just good enough to get insurance to pay for tests and the visit. As far as the yelling at nurses or anyone else on staff, I have no patience for that from any doctor when they do so in front of patients and other staff. You need to talk to staff about problems in private. If he keeps that up he will have no staff.

6. Just the

way it is when you see a new doctor. At least that’s been my experience. In 1989 I went from one rheumatologist to a new rheumatologist within the same practice. She had all my chart information, but she was new to the practice and they expected her, I am pretty sure, to treat me like a new patient and of course I was to her. Best thing was, she was my age and was a bit more understanding than the other doctor I was seeing, who was more my parents age.

7. My original GP didn't do much except vacations and quick physicals

I'm now 45 and I knew I was going to need to start having a lot of stuff looked into. Just didn't expect a firecracker of a doc ready to grab the bull by the horns when I went in today.

13. I get the mammogram

colonoscopy and bloodwork, but a full body MRI I would question why you need that. I would ask why that is necessary and if he doesn’t give a good answer or seems irritated by why you are questioning him, I wouldn’t go back. It’s stressful enough going to the doctor and you want someone you have confidence in and doesn’t yell at his staff in front of patients and other employees.

14. Looking to get the full picture of the inflammation....

Being cause. And to see if it is just inflammation.

Apparently MS can hide other health issues just like other issues can hide MS.

So I kinda understand why he wants a clean and clear picture since he is the GP, basically the first line of defense.

8. You gave the wrong answers. If they ask me:

• Old Age
• Old Age
• Old Age and so on.

With parents and grandparents, at a certain age, something was going to get them.
Hope we "youngsters" are healthier due to better habits and exercise.

9. Mom and aunt diagnosed in their late 40's and died in there 50's.

Her other siblings were diagnosed in their late 40's and early 50's.

So seeing I'm 45...

As for the heart problems on my dad side it was all ages that got hit. So the doc is right that I need to get a thorough check.

It does shake me up thinking about it. I've got enough on my plate with MS, but my health does need to checked.

Be the ancient one! I tell folks that when I stop griping about the weather and stuff that breaks so I have to get out the tool belt, I'm done.

Got my classical music and photography when stuff is behaving. Sure wish those wildflowers didn't choose such steep and rocky places to live. But that's life.
