Disability
Related: About this forumDisabled family member can't work outside the house
She is trying to get disability but hasn't gotten it yet. She was in three car accidents - none of them her fault - and has had to have numerous ankle surgeries over the past three years. Right now, she cannot walk or drive a car. This may change after another surgery, but for now she's recovering and in PT for her last one. Her husband works two jobs to pay the mortgage and the rest of the bills.
They are in a tough situation, and she wants to work, but can't right now, unless it's from home.
Does anyone have experience with this? It's hard to know from looking online who is legit. She has general office experience - administrative assistant-type stuff. I'm hoping there is something out there for her. But we're stumped on where to start.
Thanks for any insight you can offer.

It's not easy, but there is work out there - including transcription stuff (scroll down and look for that). Those forums will weed out the bad stuff and have reviews. It won't pay what she is worth, but people can figure out something that works (if they are savvy).

(1,148 posts)I will direct her to the link. Any information I can give her will give her hope. We are giving them all the help we can but it is not enough to pay for a roof over their heads. She is networking like crazy. It means a lot that you helped!

(4,429 posts)I volunteer at ours. It's really impressive. That could easily save them 60-120 dollars a month. Frankly, our bank lets people come in once a week for fresh produce and bread (so, that combined with the basics.....is about all we'd need in our home - if we were in that situation.
But get him to the food bank and see if your local one is any good.
