(110,159 posts)i said in another post earlier, last year i stopped donating. i have hated where this has gone. the first year or two, was yea. the last three years i have progressively come to disgust.
http://adsoftheworld.com/media/tv/rethink_breast_cancer_save_the_boobs .... this is the first VIDEO i saw. it isnt embedded because it was taken off youtube. be sure to go into link.
this last year, going thru the stores, seeing all the pink of products saying.... BUY ME, BUY ME.... made me walk around the store ranting. i have had women telling me "fuck that, i have breast cancer, whatever it takes". whatever it takes has never worked for me.

(2,978 posts)but it was heresy to bring up how icky I felt about all of this during my own diagnosis and treatment six years ago. It's good people have woken up to it. Honestly, there a few women in the support groups who had become professional breast cancer survivors. They went to conferences, handed out bling, were on speaker circuits, were part of PR stuff. I guess that's how some women cope, but turning that into my identity felt self-indulgent as well as like I was being used as a fake way for people to say they cared about women's issues.
I wish people were half as compassionate about mental illness.

(110,159 posts)i have such compassion, but not experienced it. so for me to say anything, exactly what you are saying, left me open to attack.
but i felt for women, that i know had to feel insulted by the "partying" almost of a horrible disease that kills.
to me, it felt so offensive. as i said especially the last couple years, and this year did it.
thank you for telling us how you feel. you deserve a voice beyond all of us and so wrong for you to feel you can not express.

(115,164 posts)It was good to see that the commentary from the audience wasn't as peurile as I would expect it to be if posted in GD or ... well, most other places around the net.
I'm really shocked at the audio of that first one you posted though. I sincerely cannot believe that is the original audio.

(106,061 posts)but this documentary will do so far better than I ever could. Has it been released? I hope it can be disseminated very widely.
WHEN Nancy Brinker comes on and talks about how THEY have donated 1 billion $$ towards breast cancer, it makes my blood boil. Where the hell do you think YOU got the $$ that has lined your own personal coffers, Nancy? I wonder if she ever really thinks of that dead sister, upon whose name and memory she has traded all these years. I am so glad the word is getting out and the fact that it is, is largely from their own hubris.

(30,884 posts)I recognize Dr. Susan Love (at time marks 0:29, 1:47) and Barbara Ehrenreich (1:20)but can't put names on the other women. Anyone recognize others?
I hate the pink saturation each October.
