Bill would ban hormone treatment for transgender minors

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A legislative committee has advanced a proposal that would prohibit transgender minors from being treated with puberty-blockers, hormone treatment or surgery to affirm their gender identity.

The Senate Health Committee advanced the bill, which would make it a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, for a doctor to prescribe puberty-blockers or hormones or perform surgery to aid in the gender transition of people 18 years(backslash) old or younger. The bill now moves to the full Alabama Senate.

“This bill is strictly about protecting children,” Republican Sen. Shay Shelnutt of Trussville told the committee. “It just prohibits medical treatments on otherwise healthy minors. Those medical treatments are surgeries, puberty-blockers and cross-sex hormones,” Shelnutt said. He added that he understands those surgeries aren’t performed in Alabama, but he said it is important to ban hormonal treatment.

A parent, a transgender teen and other advocates spoke against the bill. They said would harm kids instead of protecting them. They also said the legislation reflects a deep misunderstanding of transgender people and the treatment they can receive.

4 1/2 decades of "God is in play", "Pray away the gay", "That's elective. It's a choice.", etc. It's now here in 2022, in a blue state, that finally they're going to take this seriously and offer me help, with my insurance covering it.

So much pain and misery could've been avoided if I'd have started hormones 30 years ago, when I finally figured out what was so "weird" about me, and why I hated myself so much. Maybe my teenage years would've been less painful. Maybe my adulthood would've been more pleasant.

These assholes don't want to protect trans kids. They want to hurt them. The cruelty isn't a bug, it's a feature. The cruelty is the point. Whether it's Shelley Luther getting off on bullying them, or pushing them off the deep end, the only purpose of these bills is to see how much pain they can inflict upon "the others" - and there is no "others" they hate like they hate the trans community.

The only "children" they are trying to protect are themselves. People like Shay Shelnutt are overgrown brats and thugs who melt like the snowflakes they are when they see an LGBTQ - especially a T.

These aren't people, they're monsters. Only monsters hurt vulnerable kids.

It's time to face facts... We are now two nations. The Progressive States of America, and the Third-World Fascist Banana Republic of Murka. I'm sure you can guess which nation Alabama is in.
