(2,809 posts)Assuming this is referring to hetero men's tendency towards out-macho-ing each other, "locker room talk" BS.
There are a great deal of U.S. natives who would benefit from a non-judgemental visit to to an openly LGBTQ venue, or best of all, attend a Pride event. My brother and I attempted to talk my sister-in-law to go to the Pride festival in his city. OMG you'd think we were trying to talk her into crawling into the furnace the way she freeeeeeked, and not the first time by a long shot with her.
Remaining ignorant about the people she demonizes makes it easier to do. Had we talked her into attending, I think she would have been shocked how many churches, civic organizations and just plain FUN stuff that tends to diffuse the image of bare-butt leathermen the media has crapped on our community with focusing on exclusively and stating "see the debauchery", completely missing the point.
But sex sells eyeballs on the screen I suppose.
I'm not really very fond of most bar scenes, LGBTQ or not, simply because I don't imbibe and don't appreciate peer pressure to do so.
