Lebanese army chief 'leaked military secrets to Hezbollah'
A Lebanese army chief leaked secrets to Hezbollah during a ceasefire agreement with Israel, jeopardising the truce that halted a year of open warfare, according to intelligence sources.
Suhil Bahij Gharb, the head of military intelligence for southern Lebanon, handed the Iran-backed group sensitive information from inside a security control room run by the US, France and the UN interim force in Lebanon, who had been given the task of peacekeeping in the area, a source reported.

According to an international intelligence report seen by The Times, Gharb is one of dozens of officers in the Lebanese army who have leaked information to Hezbollah, giving them advance warning of raids or patrols, allowing them to remove weapons and evade detection.
The intelligence document states: Hezbollah use internal, sensitive information regarding the Lebanese army to hide its actions from the international entities in charge of regional security. It adds that the leaks raise concern over the ability of the Lebanese army to take over effectively the mountainous south of the country, where Hezbollah has for years been the dominant political and military force.
