BBC admits it was wrong to suggest Israel had responsibility to vaccinate Palestinians

The BBC has admitted it was wrong to suggest Israel has a responsibility to vaccinate Palestinians against Covid-19 under the terms of the Oslo Accords.

In an interview with journalist Jonathan Sacerdoti for the programme Dateline London, presenter Shaun Ley suggested the peace agreement meant Israel should vaccinate all Palestinians.

Mr Sacerdoti insisted that it was the responsibility of the Palestinian Authority, whose own health ministry said it would seek vaccine supplies through the World Health Organisation.

The BBC, following a complaint about the exchange from the public about the programme, which aired on the BBC News Channel on January 16, has since issued a correction and admitted it was wrong.

2. Why can't people put aside issues and deal with this life threatening disease, by working together?

Seems like some in Israel (from what I've seen on DU earlier) don't want to come to the aid of others in getting all vaccinated, a critical thing so this deadly disease can be stopped in its tracks. Maybe some on the other side feel this way too.

The disease doesn't know if someone is an Israelite, or a Palestinian...it sickens and kills equally.

know the 1/2 of it...I so agree w/ that remark, but I don't think it's due to a lack of knowledge, it's a deliberate stifling of news due to either their internal censors thinking this piece of information isn't worthy of reporting, or they had to cut the article down in size and / or scope to fit sizing issues, e.g., only 1 column available in newspaper, etc. (which w/ today's sizing of media shouldn't be a concern being that the Internet is basically unlimited.)

Take care and be safe!

but personally I believe its because they dont want to face charges of antisemitism again .

Read this : https://www.972mag.com/snl-michael-che-israel-covid/

That is why Israel’s denial of vaccines to Palestinians is neither a technical quibble over Oslo nor a debate around citizenship: it is the direct and inevitable result of Jewish supremacy across Israel-Palestine.

Given this context, it should be obvious that Che’s joke was not aimed at Jewish people, as figures like Mayer, Erdan, and Nitzan — whose job it is to shield Israel from criticism — would have us believe. It was directed at a regime that does very little to hide the immense privileges it affords its Jewish citizens at the expense of the rest of the “population” under its control.

Those who are now demanding that SNL apologize aren’t used to operating in an environment in which such observations can be tolerated on television. The last four years under the Trump administration have been a godsend to the pro-Israel industry, which has actively encouraged a chilling effect on free speech and public criticism of Israel through the clampdown on Palestine activism and the widespread adoption of the IHRA definition.

But with the Trump era at its decrescendo, many of us can now breathe, albeit momentarily. Michael Che’s brisk joke on Saturday night was a collective sigh of relief — air rushing back into the lungs after years of being in a stranglehold
.

Perhaps one day, these raw negative human emotions relating to race, to religion, etc. will abate and let in an overall consciousness of all in one, one for all, all for one. All hands on deck, after all, we are all on the same planet.

Take care!

Political characteristics
Mainly after the Oslo Accords, a new movement started amongst a large section of left-wing Israelis who believe that the State of Israel should no longer declare itself to be a Jewish democratic state and should rather focus on its democratic aspects. This movement seeks to create social equality in Israel.

Israel hasn’t learned the lesson of Rabin’s assassination, slain PM’s son says

Quarter-century after his father was slain by Jewish extremist, Yuval Rabin worries about history repeating itself, but takes solace in growing anti-government demonstrations

Israeli society hasn’t learned the lessons of prime minister Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination a quarter century ago, his son Yuval Rabin said Sunday, lamenting the level of public discourse and political leaders’ persistent attacks on their opponents and the legal establishment.

At the same time, he said he was heartened by a growing number of Israelis who are unwilling to accept the current state of affairs and have been taking to the streets to protest against it.

Without naming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he has criticized harshly, or the ruling Likud party, Rabin said today’s political leadership weakens the rule of law with incessant attacks on the courts and other law enforcement agencies.

“The basic premise of maintaining democracy is that the rule of law must be supreme. And where the leaders themselves on an ongoing basis challenge the validity and the legitimacy of the [justice system’s] decisions because they don’t like them, it totally breaks the structure,” he said.

But while there are many reasons to be concerned, Rabin also noted what he described as a positive change since the tense days of the early 1990s.

The Israeli public appears to show “increasing resistance” as a “wide range of constituencies are saying: ‘No more,’ and more and more people are protesting and demanding that the law applied to everyone equally,” he said, apparently referring to the weekly demonstrations against Netanyahu and his government.
