Cosmetics / shampoos / body care. Conflicting lists.

PETA's list has some companies on it that MyBeautyBunny doesn't... and vice-versa (companies that don't test or use animal products).

Where the heck can I get definitive information on companies? At this point I only use products from companies on both lists... but if one list is more 'reliable' than the other, or if there is an even better database, please let me know.

Thanks.

or non-testing companies have been bought by larger conglomerates that test. My guess would be that some of the conflicts are coming from that? I've seen different lists handle the subsidiary issue differently, in particular.

If Sparkly Sunshine Makeup Company never, ever tests on animals but they get bought out by Big Giant Household Goods Company who tests many of their other products, some lists will list Sparkly Sunshine as acceptable, some will do so with an asterisk explaining the issue, and some will remove them from their lists entirely when they get bought out by Big Giant Household Goods. Then later on if BGHG decides to sell their wildly popular Sparkly Sunshine line in China, where animal testing is mandatory, some lists get updated and some don't.

When in doubt I'd look at the company's website. If they have a strong anti-testing policy they'll generally have that prominently mentioned.

withdrawing from China, but the parent company (maybe L'Oreal?) isn't.

Though, with the ban on animal testing now in place in Europe, I don't understand how the big companies like Estee Lauder, etc., can get by with the duplicity.

And heck, I guess I'm happier supporting the smaller companies that don't have the reach to expand into China, anyway. Seems like Juice Beauty, Too Faced and some others are staying away from China, and are still independent.
