How do you clean the lawnmower decK?
I have a set up using car stands and it works OK. I've had to clean the deck a dozen times. this summer. At the end of the day, the hand is the best way I have to clean thu deck... What about you?

(28,228 posts)You ought to feel the compacted grass that ruin's the mowing experience. So you need to stop and de-grassify thw deck. 3" spatula and my hands...it works.

(994 posts)But I got tired of hooking up the hose all the time. Now I just scrape it with a shovel. It doesn't need to be perfect or look nice, it's not like anyone's going to be looking under there and judging me.

(5,752 posts)The few times I've done the push mower, I turned it on its side and used the garden hose sprayer. I've never cleaned the deck on our big zero turn mower.
Never worried about it, never had a problem with it.
Happy cleaning!

(994 posts)And a giant slab of stinking rotten grass plopped off in the garage a few days later. Took me a couple days to figure out what that awful smell was. There's still a brown mark on the garage floor I couldn't get off.

(28,228 posts)Ryobi 38" deck. Can do my 2+ acres in one run. if I keep the cut around 3". No easy way to disconnect the deck. 4 mount points and 2 motor connections.

(17,757 posts)My current one has a fitting on the deck to attach a hose and I never even considered cleaning it either. I recently replaced the three blades and there was very little debris clinging to the deck anyway.

(5,483 posts)Must confess though until the past 8 years of using electric mower I never once cleaned the grass off the underside of gas mower in over 30 years. But I have always waited until afternoon to mow when grass is dryer and I don't let grass get overly long before mowing.
Along with being quieter and no fumes and easy button start, electric mower is also great for ability to tilt it up on front wheels for easy cleaning underneath.

(28,228 posts)This summer in Central Maine has been continuously raining over the past few months...Consequently, I have narrow windows to mow and, almost invariably it gets to 6 or 7 inches before I can mow it. I've got a couple of acres of recovered field grass and various fast growing weeds and plants that make mowing a challenge.
I've had to scrape the deck at least a dozen times this summer....but I am not complaining, given what the rest of the country is going through.
