**F&EL GROUP HOST ELECTION**VOTE**HERE**1 Week election
This discussion thread was locked by uppityperson (a host of the Frugal and Energy Efficient Living group).
We're all grateful to Hutzpa for serving as interim Lead Host, and Starboard Tack and maddezmom for secondary hosts, so thank you very much for your service.
Now--every Group community has the right to determine (1) whether they want a Host at all, and (2) who the Host(s) will be. So without further adieu, we are voting on THREE questions. Here's the ballot--copy and paste into your response. We'll let the election go for 1 week if everyone agrees (similar to how LGBT and other Groups recently held their Group Host election). At the end, we'll tally up the votes and send the results to Skinner.
1. Does F&EL need a Host? (Yes, No)
2. If the community majority decides that it DOES need a Host, who should be the Lead Host, permanent position unless resigns or voted out, as DU rules now are? (Nominate someone here)
3. Who, if anyone, should be secondary Hosts? (Nominate people here)
After we get nominations, assuming that the majority winner WANTS the position, we'll send the results to Skinner. If someone nominates you and you don't WANT to serve, please say so clearly.
Thanks all. Go vote!

1. Does F&FEL need a Host? (Yes)
2. If the community majority decides that it DOES need a Host, who should be the Lead Host? (Starboard Track)
3. Who, if anyone, should be secondary Hosts? (Maddezmom, uppityperson though I'd be happy to wait if it's a 9 month position, let primary host pick secondary as needed.)

(60,011 posts)2 threads on voting is confusing me.

(115,819 posts)I changed the other back and forth and thought was being asked for an **OFFICIAL*** thread so did here. Let's use this one, if you could copy/paste it into here. thanks.

(60,011 posts)I am not a host in this group, which does not matter because no one can move threads. Not in DU3.
YOU can however edit your posts/threads at any time.( for future reference)
You might want to continue with this thread, then total up both pages, it will work that way, perhaps be less confusing.

I changed the name on the other one, and the message in the body. Littlestar is the only one who voted there, and did here also, so will count it here.

(135,425 posts)There's not much to fight about when everyone has the same essential goals.
I'll go along with the group--whatever everyone else wants is fine with me.

(106,061 posts)I designate my vote to Starboard Track, if s/he accepts.
3. Primary hosts can approve and remove all other hosts, so I leave that to the new host

1. A host can come in handy occasionally, I have discovered.
2. I designate my vote to Starboard Track, if s/he accepts.
3. Primary hosts can approve and remove all other hosts, so I leave that to the new host.

(18,219 posts)I think that a main host and two backup hosts should be enough for this group. We have fine candidates already, and I would be happy to take over when one of them decides to take a break.
I am assuming that all three are agreeable to being hosts. And they say assuming is a bad thing.

(18,120 posts)But to having a host I would say, yes.
I won't voice an opinion about who it should be, but it seems like there's a lot of agreement, and that's good.

(17,502 posts)and I'm kind of new.
It is a good idea to have a host just in case.
Starboard Track is the only one I know, I think he would do a good job. I would vote for either two or three.

(29,798 posts)Why not pin a vote on host/no host first.
if host, then pin one for nominations.
After noms collected pin election.
Simple, transparent and sequential.
If that is a suggestion coming too late, then:
No host needed IMO but I'm good with what is decided. I haven't used the FEE group much in the past but the new layout brings me to it far more often. I like it.

(17,055 posts)It is kinda late to do what you suggest. People have already been notified that they have a week to respond to this thread. Sorry we didn't think of this before all the work and notifications because it would have been ok doing it in steps. However the three steps are here and people are responding to them.
So unless someone else wants to volunteer to notify all the people of the suggested changes and then start the process over again, I'm ok with the way it is. It covers all three steps of the process requirements that Skinner laid out. Also, other groups have been doing it this way with no problems. This way is also Simple, transparent and sequential.
I hope I don't sound harsh because I really don't mean to be. I just needed to tell you how at this late date I am not in favor of starting over. If a volunteer comes forward to undo what we have done and start over again I think that would need to go up for a vote.
Exaustedly, LS

(53,661 posts)I'm off this thread, after I was just informed today.
You guys settle this yourselves.

And no offense, and don't think you were harsh.
I'm just sick of this stuff. Literally.

(29,798 posts)The work to date is appreciated very much. It's a reasonably fair approach; which is the primary goal we are trying to get to, right? I just read the thought by NMdemdist2 about pinning and I happen to agree, so you can change my view to one that is for a host.
I have no preference but am grateful to whoever takes on the extra work.

(57,936 posts)1. Does F&EL need a Host? No. It is unlikely that someone will post inappropriate items here or that people will not get along. Appointing a host might encourage someone to impose his or her idea about how this forum should develop. Why not just let the group grow naturally?
2. If the community majority decides that it DOES need a Host, who should be the Lead Host, permanent position unless resigns or voted out, as DU rules now are? I could not nominate anyone.
3. Who, if anyone, should be secondary Hosts? I don't think we need this.

If the group develops problems and needs one I assume we can get one later on.

(22,298 posts)1. Does F&EL need a Host? (Yes, No) I would say "yes," even though I'm positive a host will have little to do. But a host is needed on the off-chance a post/thread needs to be locked/axed (as seen a couple of weeks ago in the Religion group--no host meant that a post that violated darn near every rule had to stand open because there was no one to kill it)
2. If the community majority decides that it DOES need a Host, who should be the Lead Host, permanent position unless resigns or voted out, as DU rules now are? I don't hang here often, so I would be fine with whoever the regulars select.
3. Who, if anyone, should be secondary Hosts? Same answer as #2.

(115,819 posts)A large majority voted to have a host with Starboard Tack coming in with the majority of votes for primary host.
Secondary hosts came in with Maddezmom getting 10, uppityperson 7, Curmudgeoness 5, Hutzpa 1 with several people willing to give the choice to the primary host.
I will be sending the results to Skinner so he can work his magic to put Starboard tack in as primary host.
Thank you for voting and for posting in this forum.
