After Trump Withdraws from Paris Climate Accord, Blue States Lead The Way On Environment

Following Donald Trump's withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Climate Accord yet again, Democratic-led state legislatures are taking the lead in securing environmental protections.

The Paris Climate Accords are a voluntarily commitment by developed nations to reduce carbon emissions over the next decades. Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans have repeatedly spread the lie, since Trump's first term, that Paris was an unfair mandatory spending commitment from the United States. With the U.S. not in the accords, China becomes the world leader in green energy technology and innovation.

But that won't stop blue states from moving forward on their own without federal leadership.

"Again, state legislatures have been thrust to the frontlines of the fight to protect Americans from the single largest threat to humankind," Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams said in a statement. "The good news is Democrats in state legislatures are in a strong position and already hard at work in 2025 to advance legislation that protects the environment and addresses the threats of climate change."
