I taught 1st grade I know that teachers go home and take naps, then do hours of our own homework, often while sick too. We are NOT glorified babysitters.

2. My sister is homeschooling her 10 year old granddaughter while mom and dad work.

So far, the 10 year old is making higher scores than my sister. 😄 The granddaughter has offered to help her study for a pop quiz.

4. Terrible as this whole thing is...

on the bright side, people are going to have to look up from their phones and realize how much is done for them that they don't see. I think it will do us a lot of good socially by the end of it all. Too bad it has to be something like this but unless people's lives are at stake, it isn't noticed anymore.

It's good that parents are getting to see what it takes.

5. There may be many "silver linings"

during this epidemic many will be realized once it is over and we can look back at it and digest what we have experienced and learned. I am hoping there will be benefits regarding waste, consumption, habits, new discoveries, alternatives that are beneficial to the "old ways", etc. We will learn a lot as adults in many areas as we look back and review (politically, financially, locally, federally, socially, ....).

Nearly everything has been taken from us now, many will be looking at how they live their lives. My hope is that it will accelerate the transition to many of the changes we have to make and that they will beneficial all around.

I taught in middle school for 23 years and I am still exhausted.

9. I was thinking today that I could go back into class tomorrow

and pick up where I left off. Then, 4.5 seconds later I said, "No way!".

My doctors made me leave 6 years ago since I was always getting sick and my immune system was finally shot. I do remember a 3rd Grade teacher taking my class for a day since she didn't want to go with her own class on a field trip so we switched. She told me that by the first recess she was exhausted and was ready to go home or call a sub for the rest of the day (she was only half kidding).

10. I'm a teacher and still having to teach

through e-learning and it's a heck of a lot harder for me than being in the classroom face to face with the kids. I have about 80 high school kids in a Title 1 school and a tad bit over 30% of them have been actively engaged with my assignments and postings....And these 30 kids are the best of their classes with support and resources at home. My school issued well above 600 laptops, one per family that did not have a computer at home regardless of how many kids lived at home. Other issue is many of our kids do not have access to internet or the internet has been turned of due to not paying the bill....Our school is in week three of shutdown and we finally got the last shipment of hotspots to give to faculty and kids that don't have internet at home. We have internet but due to our location we cant get cable, satellite internet too expensive and doesn't provide enough bandwidth to be much more than dial-up internet. But we are still teaching and trying to reach our kids and make sure they are ok.

11. Yes, that is what my old district started doing.

So is LA. I read that they are asking the state for funds to get tablets and Wi Fi to the students. The older teachers are having a hard time transitioning from teaching in a classroom to this mode. That would definitely be me. The younger teachers are helping to train the older ones. I don't see how they will be able to teach Spec Ed, etc since those students have such a wide range of needs and many need 1:1 instruction.

A friend in NY was finally able to figure out how to use the tech help but was almost in tears since her principal was harassing and making fun of her behind the scenes.
