(CNN) Americans can continue to expect high prices for eggs this year, new estimates show, due to the ongoing avian flu outbreak and inflation.
Egg prices are estimated to increase about 20% in 2025, compared to about 2.2% for food prices in general, according to the US Department of Agricultures price outlook. Beef, coffee and orange juice are among groceries with higher prices, but eggs are uniquely impacted by the aggressive strain of avian flu, which has strained supply.

(2,964 posts)The MSM hammered the story.
I remember gas shortages, grocery shortages, and now eggs . there's always a shortage.
Its a cycle, im old, I've seen it, it's fairly simple,
The rich, get richer, they control us, until we ,as people fight back.
Friend, there's always a shortage, so the rich can get, richer.

(23,247 posts)They were the least expensive and were large brown eggs. These were the least expensive. Extra large white eggs were $8.99-$11.99!
Were on the Pennsylvania/New York state line on the upper Delaware River. We mostly shop at a local small supermarket chain that is employee owned and operated. The butcher, produce and dairy products are almost all locally sourced so its a great store.
Im not a big egg lover but I understand the metric. Its similar in NYC where the price of a slice of pizza is a nearly perfect barometer of the local economy.
