Regarding witnessing the RW and corporate media attacks on the Democratic presidential candidate and the need to stand united in order to win.
United, just like Cubans and Venezuelans and Bolivians and Brasilians, etc., stood, en mass, in support of their liberal/leftist/socialist leadership.
Like said leadership or not, they did stand behind their leaders when their nations were confronted with the same RW, corporate funded insurrectionists, with the same goal of destroying their administrative state.
Very admirable, except not in the US media - the same media backing the elimination of our President/candidate.
Just so you know, I am Cuban-American.
I love my homeland and my adopted nation, and my dream is to see normalized relations between the two, as President Obama attempted.
Much love to all herein.

(3,001 posts)Especially when they vote GOP overwhelmingly.
The intransigent RW "exiles" will never change their stance. They will never vote Dem.
So, fuck them. Let's do the right thing.

(19,515 posts)We had new kids in school from Cuba, new neighbors with grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, moms, dad n the kids all living together..and working for their American Dream. I remember those days. Some people opened their arms, some did not with the same rhetoric still being spewed about migrants today. The old Cuban folks dreamed of going back and were here for just a little while. I still do not understand why they fled an authoritarian regime only to have some of their communities supporting TSF today.

(3,001 posts)You mean the authoritarian regime that forced universal health care on the people that voted for it?
You mean the authoritarian regime that forced universal higher ed on the people that voted for it?
You mean the authoritarian regime that incorporated (by election) the ERA and UDHR into the constitution (the US is the only developed nation NOT to pass either)?
Oh, that authoritarian regime.

(19,515 posts)I do know of Cubas health care and research hospitals/universities which are world renowned. I am not Cuban nor am I a historian of the island nation. I only know what I have learned from friends who had family originally from Cuba. My first husbands family had many tales to tell but they are all gone now so I cant confirm what has been said. I will repeat my lack of understanding why anyone would support T* in this election..Cuban or not.

(3,001 posts)Supporters of the real Cuban blood-soaked US backed authoritarian dictator.
And they flew here on commercial airlines with visas in hand.
They received a wide range of extra perks that no other immigrant group ever got...
Instant work visa, instant access to Sec 8 housing with a $41,000 income exemption(authoritarian socialism?), instant access to Social Security and SSDI, many various low interest SBA loans for Cubans only, and lots more.
Sanctioning a nation into starvation, and them offering extra socialist programs just for them, and then blaming their gov't? Craven.
The Cuban immigrant experience is like no other immigrant experience.
How do I know? I am one.

(3,001 posts)But, the one party thing isn't a thing.
The communist party only holds about 15% of the seats in the National Assembly (the Cuban Parliament).

There are direct elections to municipal, provincial and national assemblies, the latter represent Cuba's parliament.
Electoral candidates are not chosen by small committees of political parties. No political party, including the Communist Party, is permitted to nominate or campaign for any given candidates.
Here are some of the major parties in Cuba. The union parties hold the majority of seats in the National Assembly.
* Partido Comunista de Cuba (PCC) {Communist Party of Cuba}
* Partido Demócrata Cristiano de Cuba (PDC) {Christian Democratic Party of Cuba} - Oswaldo Paya's Catholic party
* Partido Solidaridad Democrática (PSD) {Democratic Solidarity Party}
* Partido Social Revolucionario Democrático Cubano {Cuban Social Revolutionary Democratic Party}
* Coordinadora Social Demócrata de Cuba (CSDC) {Social Democratic Coordination of Cuba}
* Unión Liberal Cubana {Cuban Liberal Union}
