Hillary Clinton

I predict there will be a flood of staunch Republicans who find Trump to be so dangerous that they will cross for Hillary. Don't think for a minute that it's because they support anything she stands for. They don't. They believe that only by effectively delivering a humiliating loss to Trump will they be able to save the party.
There was some discussion about this on a show but I didn't pay enough attention to get a name. The guy, a reporter/author, surveyed a number of prominent repubs and got the same story time after time. His findings, whether they told him they'd vote for Hillary or not -and many did!- was that Turnip had to suffer a humiliating level of defeat.
We're already seeing some go public, either going so far as to recommend Clinton, or just to rebuke the repub party's choice of Trump.

(28,270 posts)An admittedly small and ever shrinking party of the republican party for sure!

(12,142 posts)Those who identify as Repub, and likely have for a long time, may bite the bullet and vote for HC. They actually would likely prefer a sane person with experience in the White House--it would be somewhat more comforting for them than the alternative. Especially considering DT does not follow rules well, or even advice--he is totally unpredictable and all about himself. Scary stuff.

I have voted Democratic all my life. Bill Clinton was my first vote when I was in college.

(15,065 posts)Many republicans on the state level are either voting Clinton, or staying home. Even in the red/purple states.
The republicans are screwed. Oust trump and set off an insurgence of their base. They won't vote in protest.
Keep Trump and many, many will vote D or stay home.
They built it, they own it. They relied on the racism within their party to obstruct and block President Obama. They encouraged the teabaggers. A portion of their religious leaders (which a political party should not have) call for the death/prison of those who oppose them or live a lifestyle they don't approve of. They cheered this.
The success of trump should not be a surprise to them. He is the fulfillment of their platform. He just doesn't dress up his words good enough for them. Their running away now is sheer cowardice. Trump is what the entire republican party stands for.
As usual though, the republicans are in denial and running away from their fucking mess. The party of responsibility is feigning innocence on their part in the creation of the monster. Instead they are taking advantage of it. They have nothing to stand on in the election. They are appealing to the down ticket races. Elect me, I denounced trump.
Democrats need to hang trump around the neck of each and every republican running for office. Right down to dog catcher.

(28,270 posts)Thanks for that
The republicans are well and truly screwed any way they go in the GE!
They built the monster and its running amok, out of their control now for sure! They had 8 years in which they could have worked with President Obama to help the american people but they chose obstruction, hate and racism instead!
Reap the whirlwind you have sown Republicans!

(4,309 posts)All but the craziest tea-bagger types will either vote Hillary or stay home. Which could result in a landslide for Hillary. Which would give her a mandate. Which would be excellent for the country!
Peace!
I love positive thinking!
