Got a little bit over the top. (HILLARY GROUP)

Went to a high school graduation party last Sunday. Catholic girl's high school. Didn't want to go but my significant other insisted because she is friends with the graduate's mother. Asshole starts mouthing off about all of the Hillary scandals, how she covered up for Bill's rapes (never proven, of course) and how she was responsible for the Benghazi deaths. Then he went into how she is into "killing babies" I couldn't take it. I told Mr. know-it-all that I am pro-choice, that I think women can make their own decisions. Then I asked him what real proof he had of any of his accusations. He tried to dismiss me with a wave of his hand saying "You're a big liberal" but I wasn't done. Told him he is brainwashed by too much Fox news and right-wing radio. Told him he is an idiot for supporting a con man like Trump. Told him I voted for Obama twice and would again if I could. I got a little too loud.

Embarrassed? Yes, in a way. My partner thought I went a bit nuclear. I agree. I am still sorting it all out. I just can't take the bullshit any more.

did right to call them out on RW lies. Truth is, you can't change most people's minds, they get to where its a matter of faith basically. Our political discussion in this country is so screwed. I grew up with 3 network channels of news and PBS and it was so different than now. The truth is that we are probably closer to the way it was before network tv though. Politics is something else. How did we make it this far? lol.

Don't be embarrassed. It is that insufferable boor who should be embarrassed for forcing you and everyone around him to listen to his neanderthal views.

Maybe next time he will think twice before subjecting people to his offensive political rants. If more people pushed back like you did, maybe right wing nut jobs would not be so quick to subject people to their depraved ravings.

Liberals are always the ones worrying about people's feelings and not wanting to get political among mixed company, but the right wingers have no problem popping off and making people miserable.

Assholes need to hear the push back. I usually ask where they heard that information and offer an appropriately snarky response.

This actually happened when I started my new job about 4 years ago. I went to my boss about a NRA flyer that was posted on the bulletin board and he asked if it bothered me. I responded that I was always told not to discuss religion or politics at work, but it didn't bother me, I just wanted to confirm that I could post political messages as well. Need less to say, the NRA flyer was removed pronto.

Speaking out is not my style. I could have sat there and said nothing and tacitly agreed with the BS or spoken up. I spoke up, for once.

No, I did not want to go there to begin with.

talking with friends on both coasts that I have not talked to on the phone in over a year for one couple and three years for the other. One couple is in California and the other couple in Virginia. All four of the women are in their late 40s - early 50s.

Until this campaign they did not even self identify as feminists. Now they are radical feminists who see everything they managed to ignore before.

Both couples wanted to tell me about recent dust-ups at social events where they just had to let it all out. They were a little embarrassed that they have changed the dynamics in their social circles but the reason they called me was to brag about how they woke up, how they stepped up, and that they are not going to take it anymore. I loved it and they all said we fully understand your world view for the first time.

I loved it. They just wanted Mama to know that they finally heard/saw the clanging bells. I warned them they could never turn it off again.
