Congress
Related: About this forumThe House has a speaker. Here's what comes next
Every new Congress must pass a new set of House rules, and doing so will be the top of the 118th Congress to-do list when the House reconvenes Monday.
With House Republicans majority, comes a newfound power to set the agenda investigative and legislative.

House Republicans will be limited in their ability to pass bills through Congress with Democrats in control of the Senate and the White House where the president can exercise veto power over legislation. Still, House Republicans will be able to push messaging bills that highlight their agenda.

With subpoena power and control over powerful committees, the House GOP plans to make investigations into the Biden administration a top priority. Among its targets are:
Hunter Biden. GOP Rep. James Comer, who is in line to chair the House Oversight Committee, said that in the 118th Congress, this committee will evaluate the status of Joe Bidens relationship with his familys foreign partners and whether he is a President who is compromised or swayed by foreign dollars and influence.

Several other "investigations" are expected by these pricks too. Yes we still control the Senate and White House but it does not mean these people cannot make our lives a bigger mess than it already is. We need to stay strong and fight them on every front. The best way is to shed lots of light on their BS agendas that serve no one but themselves and hinder this nation!

(35,095 posts)They really just want to fling wild accusations without having anything to back them up. Joe Biden does not make money from foreign governments and its just plain crazy and stupid to think so. We only had one resident who went into the job for personal enrichment and he still getting away with it as a private citizen

(24,786 posts)They have created a new Church-like committee that wants to investigate and subpoena people from the FBI, DOJ, and DHS, the military.
Their goal is the destruction of those agencies. Their goal is to defund those agencies. Can they defund them, they control the purse strings. It may take shutting down the government but believe me they plan on doing exactly that. Democrats are going to have to stand strong and they should be talking about what the Magats are planning now and not wait until the last minute.
I suggest getting a big dog, make him/her a dog house and bury your money under the dog house.
My question is this; does K street, do the domestic oligarchs who are funding these Magats want a government shutdown? The super rich can survive sky high interest rates and sky high inflation and can actually make money shorting the market. Do the Thiels, Kochs, DeVos, Mercers want to shut down our government to destroy our democracy? Time will tell.

(3,162 posts)There are many casualties already of public servants who left after decades of service -- I believe because they were under constant pressure by these far right domestic terrorists
Even the halls of Congress can feel unsafe -- this constant threat will wear down even the most dedicated people
I'm convinced part of the strategy is to wear people down, drive them out, and discourage people from participating in any office of government
I've heard, first hand, that this is happening in the Library of Congress where long-time employees are getting out. I'm sure if they're replaced at all, it'll be with maga sympathizers. In many cases, they won't be replaced so the institution will be crippled
They will punch down. No one is too weak or powerless to punch. No one is safe.
