If Luther Strange(R-AL) won the Republican primary runoff in the 2017 AL US Senate special election,

He would be currently serving in the US Senate.
Why did the Republicans reject Strange in favor of Moore?

Strange got Bentley off the hook for financial improprieties with his mistress who Bentley had on his payroll. And then a total coincidence Bentley appointed Strange to fill Session's seat until the Senate election. The Alabama Republicans gave the GOP a kicking by voting for Moore in the primary.
